Florida is weird because the further north you are geographically the further south you are culturally.

Well apparently I'm most similar to the very north east of the USA. Like the 5/6 states there are red/orange and the rest is basically all blue. Like two of my cities were Providence and Worcester (which I'm guessing is pronounced 'woah-ses-ter').

Guess it worked out I'm not from round these parts.

Wouldn't the vast majority of people be direct descendants of Cheddar Man? I mean, most Europeans are direct descendants of Charlemagne and he's not 9,000 years old.

Edit: Also, what does this habe to do with cultural homogeneity?

Unknown. We do know with absolute certainty that Targett is, making him have the longest recorded ancestral record.

Humor, mostly. Though there's probably something cultural to be said of "person takes up home in a location and his descendents do not leave to 10,000 years". Though most of what would be said would revert back to humor, again.

You can always tell someone's not from around here when they try to pronounce Helena, Mobile, Arab, Oneonta, LaFayette, and Opelika

I was talking about the US one too. They are pronounced the same. Sorry, totally brainfarted there, a lot of towns here are named after English towns, of course you’d be able to pronounce them.

The sad thing is, the US is known to be far more culturally homogeneous than Europe. Just the result of much of it's population not having the time to grow into their villages.

Ihow likely do you think it is that each generation for 9,000 years only had one child?

Scientific consensus is (to my knowledge) that after a certain duration, you are either an acestor of all of humanity or none of it. And the cut-off point is (again to my knowledge) way under 9,000 years. According to Wikipedia our last common acestors is 2-5,000 years old.

Except, that, by the same token Cheddar Man is almost certainly inside Mr. Targett's family tree dozens or hundreds of time. And while it's possible that one of the line of descent between the two of them stays consistently in the same spot, many would also include VIIth century BC Chinese rice farmers, Native American hunters, Indo-European soldiers and a many other people in many faraway places.

All I'm going to say is that of around 20 people who tested, only the one was a direct descendent. I'm aware of the "all or none" claims, but I'm just going off of what the scientists say here. Also, they note that the descendency is on Targett's mothers' side.

Well at that level of genetic difference I'd be shocked if his descents had any genes in common. Humans have 25,000 genes, the genes you have from any particular ancestor should roughly halve every generation. As we're looking at hundreds of generations I'd expect you'd have to test thousands to get multiple confirmed descendents.

While I agree you are naming a lot of stereotypes that are used for TV and Movies, the truth is the way people have moved around the country over the last couple of decades has done a great job of mixing things up.

It is funny at times to hear and see how many different members of many of those stereotypes are all living here in Los Angeles.
