    Gotcha. I'll wait to reply for a bit to see if anyone OOC has any objections to working with our crimson amigo, since this seems like a major story beat that everyone should get the chance to opine on whether they think we should go that route.

    I have no objections. Hannabel is just a bit sad that Echoman came clean after all - all that paranoia for nothing.

    OTOH, it's an opportunity to talk to an honest-to-goodness Astartes from before the Heresy, which makes for an amazing new experience in her book...

    I struggled with that bit. Once he could brush off, but twice meant you'd probably keep asking, and the longer he took to tell you the worse it would be when you did find out.

    Yeah, Anika has no reason not to ask. Not admitting to his Legion would have been an answer of sorts all by itself.

    If he's not actually trying to kill us it suggests he might be trustworthy up to a point. If he's actually dangerous there might not be a lot we can do about it. This is even more true if Anika ever finds out Ahriman's biography. Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons arguably makes him the most powerful psyker in the Imperium.

    Obviously, no objection. Open to giving him the benefit of the doubt up to a point. The real question is why he's here in the first place.

    In other news I may have bricked my laptop. Going to try and boot windows tomorrow through a USB drive. My posting might be affected.

    *For a given value of "beat." We survived the fight, and I'm defining that as a win. Although humorously we did better against a named CSM HQ special character than a small squad or Ork Troops.

    Orks are, however, very willing to fight to the death. Ahriman noped out as soon as it became clear he was going to lose. Orks would call this cowardice, Ahriman calls it prudence. Orks would also make fun of Ahriman for being a sparkly magic git.

    While they are not wrong, they are very flammable.

    Anyways, anyone have more for now, or do you want to see what awaits you on the planet?

    Oh, I could use a Charm test from Macharius, by the way. The crew is not going to be happy about needing to wait here for any length of time. He probably auto-passes this, but degrees of success can still be important.

    I'm about ready. I assume that a good rest is unwise, sadly; Echo is already down to one Fate Point after making my various navigation rolls. Hopefully that won't prove to be an issue.

    Does anyone remember if we told the others about the Inquisition bugs? I will have to go through the thread to check when I'm more awake.

    Mostly thinking about keeping Ahriman being on the ship as secret as possible, but I don't suppose it matters while we're in the Maw.

    I'd have to check to make sure, but I'm fairly certain that Hannabel felt that Anika should be the one to break the news to Macharius when an appropriate moment could be found. The same goes for the Mechanicus' plots. Pretty sure neither has come up yet.

    You're supposed to investigate this tower, find anything suspicious, and poke it with a stick.

    Oh, and for Echo's information, the tower was not, at any point, evacuated. They stopped sending people to it suddenly, for undisclosed reasons, and tried to have an unknown Rogue Trader arrested and executed.

    Mkay, looking back a bit, I can't find any mention of that mysterious Rogue Trader until now; nobody told us (the Astropaths didn't tell Echo much of anything, actually), and we didn't get it from our lore rolls. We also don't appear to know that the Installation is still sending signals every 17 minutes.

    Destro, am I allowed to just spam Psyniscience and Gaze into the Abyss as often as my paranoia suggests, or would you rather that I hold off until you ask for such things? Much like a rogue creeping through a trap-filled dungeon, I don't want to bog things down by constantly repeating the same checks, but I don't want us to get caught by surprise if I could prevent it either.

    You know about the signals now, at very least. They became detectable when you got close enough the the planet, the ship's Astropath told you about them.

    Generally, you're not going to have to spam those things, incidentally. Psyniscience lets you detect hinky stuff, Gaze tells you approximately how hinky it is. Both of them are mostly useful on creatures, though, and unlike checking for traps, Psyniscience works through walls. Also from a purely mechanical point of view, if you weren't on any particular time crunch you could theoretically just keep testing Psyniscience until you pass, so I'm inclined to pop it in with the lore checks and say you can't just retry. You either detect something, or you don't.

    Of course, you also still need to figure out how to get inside the tower. The door's locked and has no power besides.

    Ok, so Anika failed her test, and can't think of any Xenos species that might cause something like this. Buzzing audible only to psykers/navigators? Weird. Macharius passed his, and has heard of something called The Shadow in the Warp which supposedly blocks astropaths and the like, but doesn't have any particular sound associated with it. He's reasonably certain this is not that, but isn't sure what it could be instead.
