Default The King’s Man, a review by 2D8HP

For comparison’s sake the last six films I’ve watched have been Cruella (2021), Vertigo (1958) [third time I’ve watched it], The Apartment (1960), The French Dispatch (2021),The Heartbreak Kid (2007), and Knives Out (2019).

Of other films The King’s Man reminded me most of Casino Royals (2006), with bits of The Matrix (1999), Forest Gump (1994), Paths of Glory (1957), and Reds (1981) mixed in.

Other than The Heartbreak Kid and The Matrix it wasn’t as good as any of those films, but still a worthwhile “popcorn movie”.

The opening scene (set in 1902 South Africa) is genuinely tear jerking, afterwards though it seems more like a series of set pieces rather than a narrative whole, but what gorgeous set pieces they are!

I’d say the short nighttime trench warfare scene was the most striking, but they were others that were visually impressive, with impressive action.

The heroes mostly seemed too anachronistic in their attitudes, and the villains underdeveloped, I was especially disappointed that the Mata Hari character wasn’t further developed.

All-in-all I’m glad I watched it but I won’t pay to see it again.

I saw it yesterday morning and this is my thoughts about the movie.

Spoiler: My Thoughts Of The King's Man (2021)

That movie is wonderful. It is about the origin of the Kingsman agency. What I like about this movie it was action-packed and violent. There wasn't anything I disliked about the movie. I just love this movie because it's perfect. I'll give this movie 10 out of 10 stars.
It's time to get my Magikarp on!

    Agreed, Bartmanhomer.

I loved the usage of Rasputin.

Also the after credits was interesting

Although, how Hitler was part of bad guy group means what? That he was being bad for some other goal? Will we get a sequel to the prequel?

There was a after the credits bit ? Bugger I didn't stick around

It was fun but I did find some severe tonal whiplash going between the marvelously stupid comedy action of the fight with Rasputin and the depiction of the horrors of the trenches of WW1
