Yeah, that was a swing and a miss for me. Standard FG formula of taking X and ratcheting it upto a ludicrous degree on intensity, with the only change being the X and the specific wording.

I'm not even saying Family Guy didn't have any funny jokes, I'm positive there were some thing so laughed at for what little I saw of it, but the bad vastly outweighed the good.

I live near a forested area. I'm highly tempted to rent a gorilla costume, film someone running around in the really thickly wooded part at five in the morning, and send it to one of those paranormal caught on camera shows to see if they catch on.

Because every so often I catch an episode of one of those and the even they caught is quite obviously stagged.

So I've seen them both multiple times, but only ever saw half of the second series (although I've seen all bar the last episode of the first).

Just wanted to brag about quiting smoking. Today, at 3pm it will officially be 2 weeks since I last smoked a ciggarete.

I still vape, which honestly helps a lot with the whole quiting process. It's been 12 years since I first started smoking, and at some point I even used to smoke 3 packs a day.

We had to put the dog down a while back. Vet said his lngs were filling with fluid faster than he could cough it up. A quick shot was more merciful.

Before that he got on fine with the cats.

Also, she's not small enough that her being confused for a chew toy is a concern. She's like... "Could wear her as a hat small," but not "could be confused for a kitten" small.

I was pretty happy to find out I don't actually have to take all the little curtain gliders out of the curtain rail to fix one of them that was a little stuck (ok, so I probably would actually have ignored the problem for another month or so anyway...). That's one incredibly annoying task I don't have to do after all!

Like "you're being highly disproportionate" or "you're letting this consume your life" are one thing, those are good lessons, but every so often I see one that seems to say "no matter how big or small what they did is, even if they have no remorse or intent to make amends, you don't deserve restitution, retribution, or even closure."

Like "you're being highly disproportionate" or "you're letting this consume your life" are one thing, those are good lessons, but every so often I see one that seems to say "no matter how big or small what they did is, even if they have no remorse or intent to make amends, you don't deserve restitution, retribution, or even closure."

I've always saw things like this as being less "you don't deserve it" and more "no matter what you do, you'll never truly get closure", which is an important lesson in and of itself. After a point is it worth your time to get revenge, when it won't make you feel better?

Not withstanding that revenge does not constitute restitution, no, you don't. You're too close. There's a reason that a lawyer representing themself has a fool for a client, and that doctors refuse to see family members as patients, for example. You're compromised by it. You're not getting justice, you're not getting restitution, you're getting revenge. You just want to hurt the other person because you were hurt. That's it. Hell, for all countless cultures have adages about revenge being a poor idea, even the ones pro-revenge specifically caution against this. For example, "revenge is a dish best served cold" - wait until you're no longer emotional about it, don't do it in a compromised state. Because that blinds you and makes you an abjectly terrible judge. It won't bring you closure, it'll just make you happy that you brought someone else down. It won't give you restitution, it'll just take things away from someone else. Retribution is all it is, and society is not obligated to sate your bloodlust.

All cases of "you" in this case being a generalized "you, the reader", and not "you, Rater, specifically".

My perspective might be biased on this.

...I legitimately don't think I'm capable of forgetting when people have wronged me. I can't remember half the crap I did when I was seven but I remember my cousin stealing all my pokemon cards while claiming they were his and my whole family just leaving with them.

I had a Rocket's Moltres.

He then lost all of them. Except for my limited edition MewTwo. You know, the one that came with the Video Cassette of the first movie? I got that one back, but it was bent in half and two of the corners were ripped off.

He still claims that they were his and most people I mention it to just say they were trading cards and to get over it."

I'm not planning to take any revenge on him. Even if I was, the way he grew up it wouldn't be worth it and anything I could do to him would just hurt his kid who's innocent in all of this... But that doesn't mean I don't remember.

Honestly at this point I'm more angry at the people who I mention it to who say it wasn't a big deal and that I just need to get over it.

Revenge != restitution or closure. Retribution or retaliation can serve the purpose of discouraging similar behavior in the future, but that's not really revenge, now is it? And retribution can in principal be carried out by a third party, like Peelee more or less pointed out.
