Other issues with that aside, Belkar tends to have a low tolerance for dumb people in general and dumb Linears in particular, whereas Thog is quite busy being Schrödinger's orc.

Not in the USA, wings used to be waste food, you could buy huge packages of wings for less than the price per pound of any other meat, but they are now so popular that suppliers regularly run out and prices are going up.

Bar food is high profit margin stuff.

Not for long. America's Test Kitchen did a bit on turning thighs into Buffalo Chicken, based on the high cost and erratic availability of wings.

The key part if the "IF" is not more than zero armies of Macedonia, it's more than zero armies of Macedonia in Laconia (the Spartan homeland).

Sparta was the Greek polis without walls, because they expected their armies to destroy any hostile army that tried to get into Laconia prior to it getting close enough to Sparta for walls to be of any value at all.

I've been lurking on this forum for a very long time, but this thread has kinda compelled me to post something. So here it goes.

A lot of people have speculated about different ways that Belkar might survive and yet still meet the conditions of the Oracle's prophesies. Most involve variations of some type of transformation of Belkar into a construct, an undead, a god, or whatever. Or some twisted interpretation of the Oracle's predictions themselves (not without potential I suppose). But there is a much simpler way for Belkar to continue to live and yet also meet all of the Oracles prophesies.

If we assume that the Oracle's prophetic vision is limited to the "known universe", and cannot therefore see into the snarl itself (beyond any of the rifts either), a reasonable assumption given that the gods don't seem to be aware of what lies beyond either, and we assume that there is a viable world within the rifts (also possible given that Blackwing saw a world complete with clouds, and green patches), then we only need to speculate a possible means for someone to travel through a rift and into that world without being torn asunder and unmade by the Snarl along the way.

If Belkar were to make such a journey and never return, then from the point of view of the Oracle, he would meet all the criteria. He would no longer be of this world, he would never be seen to breathe again, never seen to eat a birthday cake, nor ever retire and cash in his 401k. He would, from the Oracle's perspective, simply cease to exist, just as if he'd been unmade by the Snarl. No way to tell the difference.

I could come up with a few reasons why Belkar might do this (and which might even tie into character development and foreshadowing), but at the very least, it is a method by which a beloved character could avoid death and/or destruction while not violating any of the Oracle's statements regarding his future. And hey... Chekov's world, right? There's got to be some element of the story that interacts with it in some way.

Not going to assume this is the case (my predictions on this story are sitting somewhere around 1 in 30 or so), but just tossing it out there as a possible way for it to happen.

Anyway, my prediction is that Belkar continues his alignment shift until finally he seemingly sacrifices himself to kill Xykon. The sacrifice works, Xykon is killed, but Belkar is miraculously saved from death; however, the fact that he even tried sacrificing himself to save the world completes his alignment change so he is now Neutral Good.

After Xykon is defeated, the Order splits up the loot. Belkar generously lets everyone else pick what they want and all thats left is a seemingly useless hat. He puts it on, thinking a new outlook on life requires a new look, but it is a Helm of Opposite Alignment and switches him back to Chaotic Evil. He steals the rest of the Order's magic items and flees, only to get killed by a trap right outside the door.

I think you're overstating the likelihood of Detect Fish being among Laurin's powers known.

If I recall correctly, she may now live in a desert nation but she was an adventurer who got around (as all adventurers tend to do, not just the Beach Boys). Being able to detect fish (or other life forms, or other aquatic life forms) may have been something from her background, something psionic (she's a Psion) or something needful during a level-up in the course of an adventure.

I'll not disparage Laurin's fish sensing without further evidence of its being out of character for her.
