Yeah I think Mr. Revenant here was hit by the same Curse as Pelan, but Pelan had thought he had died before that and so assume(s/d) this is a Shade that is somehow using the shape of his old ally to torment them, when it is in fact that same, embittered friend.

That was what Vis' aide suspected, with Ardelie's actions later it's at least plausible..and Vis trying to hide Ardelie escaping does not look forthright.
