...The joke being that dealing with Lovecraftian threats to humanity and reality is the literal job description of the Sorcerer Supreme*.

So the idea that someone woke up Cthulhu and Doctor Strange dealt with it entirely off-screen... It's sort of a "But for me, It was Tuesday" type thing.

Yes. We got that. Marvel be flexin' how OP Dr. Strange is. Unless you're already a fan of Dr. Strange it's not really going to be a very funny joke, though.

Yeah, but that's less funny than the fact that you don't actually need to bother, by the time Cthulhu decides to get up humanity will almost certainly be extinct (and/or not around here if you want a more Eldritch Skies interpretation).

Is it really that OP? Cthulhu isn't actually that big a deal in the Mythos proper, obviously far beyond what a normal human can manage but as you yourself just noted he's... Fragile, for lack of a better word, enough that a steamboat to the head is enough of a deterrent to make him feel that it's not worth it to keep going and instead elects to go back to sleep for a while.

Modern adaptions tend to vastly up how big a deal Cthulhu is as well as up the danger level of Mythos beings in general but when Marvel draws on the Mythos they tend to go for the old stories.

(Much the same way that Marvel's Conan stories are, for the most part, in line with Howard orignals.)

Going just by the original Works, Cthulhu would probably lose to any national tier or higher Super who was strong enough of will to not go insane upon seeing that a creature like Cthulhu exists... And in Lovecraft's orignal stories it was more a result of sensitive constitution and psychological rigidity on the part of his protagonists that led to their madness, it's not that Cthulhu has some kind of insanity aura it's just that his protagonists, in particular, had trouble wrapping heir mids around the fact that he and his kin existing in the first place and the shear stress of trying to reconcile it with their existing world view broke them.

It's beings like Nyarlathotep, Yog-Sothoth, and so on that are the ones you've gotta watch out for.

I don't care if Dr Strange can casually beat Cthulhu at all. Partially because that's not the point of beings such as Cthulhu, partially because power does not make a character interesting, partially because it's just not funny. I might potentially enjoy a Doctor Strange vs Cthulhu story, but that really depends on the writing.

That's not to say that you can't have an interesting powerful character. I've been reading DIE and Matt has been established as an unstoppable badass when he's willing to use his powers. But his actual fights are almost entirely off-panel, because they're not interesting. What's interesting is his motivation to fight despite his powers being incredibly unhealthy for his mental state (grief is not a fun power source).

Honestly most of what I remember Bartmanhomer complaining about is YouTube related, alongside a little bit of Facebook. To give him credit he really doesn't seem to make a big deal about specific movie scenes.

I suggest he does start to focus on specific scenes and moments more, it might make his film reviews better.

I'm now trying to remember if you've ever been in a relationship, so that if there's potentially implied (current) girlfriends in there I can congratulate accordingly.

If there's no implied girlfriends then those lesbians are clearly missing out.
