Help Me Build a Halcyon Druid
This is to be a backup character for a game that's currently at 9th level.
For anyone unfamiliar, a Halcyon Druid doesn't gain Wild Shape, an Animal Companion, or the ability to spontaneously convert prepared spells to Summon Nature's Ally spells. What it does get is access to a limited number of Wizard spells.
More specifically, at 4th level, and every level thereafter, a Halcyon Druid picks 2 spells from the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list, and adds them to their Druid spell list. The spells chosen must always be at least one level lower than the highest level of spell the Druid can cast.
So, at 9th level, I can have up to two 1st-level spells, four 2nd-level spells, four 3rd-level spells, and two 4th-level spells. Things I'm considering include:
- Charm Person, Ear-Piercing Scream, Feather Fall, Grease, Vanish
- Darkvision, Defending Bone, Glitterdust, Hideous Laughter, Mirror Image, Web
- Ablative Sphere, Battering Blast, Eldritch Fever, Haste, Invisibility Sphere, Shrink Item, Slow, Suggestion
- Arcane Eye, Dimensional Anchor, Dimension Door, Enervation, Resilient Sphere
I'm open to suggestions related to spell selection, as well as suggestions related to all other aspects of character creation. My Perpetually-Unfinished Homebrew: Tier-3 Class Suite, Homestuck Races for Pathfinder, Homestuck Races for 5e, Psionic Class Redux

Re: Help Me Build a Halcyon Druid
That is a versitile and fun change to druid. Are you looking for 3.0/3.5 material or only PF? Also, what is the reat of the party?

The DM occasionally, allows 3.5 content, but approval isn't guaranteed. The other party members are a Witch, a Rogue, and a regular Druid.

Re: Help Me Build a Halcyon Druid
As a start, I'd take spells geared to your party:
Helps rogue: Grease, Web, Improved Invisibility (though...are there some druid spells nowadays that can make foes flat-footed?)
Helps druid: Honestly, your druid spells cover that.
Works well with witch's evil eye/debuffs: any save-or-lose spells - so glitterdust, slow, create minor pit
Helps everyone: Vanish, Haste, rope trick
So that gives:
1: Grease, Vanish
2: Web, glitterdust, create minor pit, rope trick
3: slow, haste
4: improved invisibility, and 1 more - maybe Shadow Conjuration for even more flexible options?Handbooks: (Hosted on the new MixMax forums)

Re: Help Me Build a Halcyon Druid
Polymorph, Ray of Enfeeblement, Feather Fall are good choices to me.
VC XV, The horsemen are drawing nearer: The Alien and the Omen (part 1 and part 2).
VC XVI, Burn baby burn:Nero
VC XVIII, This is Heresy! Torquemada
VC XX, Elder Evil: Henry Bowyer
And a repository of deliciously absurd sentences produced by maddened optimisers in my extended signature

Re: Help Me Build a Halcyon Druid
Pathfinder, so get Blood Money. Saves the components for Reincarnate and eventually for Cyclic Reincarnate (although you may need to buff up a bit for that one).
Do you have a locksmith? If not, Knock.
Charm Monster is a nice Will save or lose spell.
Dimension Door gets you out of fixes.
There aren't many obstacles that a few castings of Polymorph can't bypass.Of course, by the time I finish this post, it will already be obsolete. C'est la vie.
