On February 16, 2012, I posted a thread for an Pathfinder optimization guides compendium. Pathfinder 1E had been out for about 2 and a half years. Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition wouldn't be launched for 2 years. Pathfinder 2E wouldn't be launched for 7.

In the time between the creation of Pathfinder and today, a mountain of incredible 3rd party content has been released, but one thing has remained the same: People play what's known.

People go on forums and ask what 3rd party is good, ask whether this or that class is balanced, browse optimization guides, ask what the consensus on this system is, talk about fun builds, and look for real experiences with product because no one has the time to read and become familiar with every option that's out there, much less play every option that's out there.

However, other things have changed. The site d20pfsrd used to be the be-all end-all, go-to source for Pathfinder content. While it's still excellent, Archives of Nethys gives it serious competition for Paizo content, Spheres of Power Wiki has tons of 3rd party content, and with even more is available on Library of Metzofitz. With competition from D&D 5E especially and the end of new 1st party Paizo content, Pathfinder 1E has shifted from the biggest game in town to a niche market. That niche market is further splintered across many storefronts, forums, and reference documents.

For myself personally, the primary reason I play Pathfinder 1E is the quantity and quality of the 3rd party options available. You can truly create any character and any world you can dream of. The limits are only your imagination and your knowledge of the options available.

To spark imaginations and increase knowledge of the options available, I present: The Tertianomicon. It is by no means complete, but with 200+ classes listed, it should be a good starting point for the conversation.

Core Goals of the Tertianomicon:

1. Provide a one-stop shop of Pathfinder 1E 3rd party classes for players and GMs.

2. Provide links to websites where these products are available for purchase to support the content creators.

3. Provide links to the tools players and GMs need to determine if these products are right for their group: Optimization guides, reviews, SRDs, descriptions of actual play, builds, etc.

4. Gather a group of other Curators who will help update the compendium and provide their recommendations for 3rd party content (as mentioned above, their is simply too much 3rd party content out there for one human to feasibly experience).

5. If an accounting for all available 3rd party classes can be completed, then move on to 3rd party races, archetypes, items, homebrew content, Paizo content, etc.

Soft Goals of the Tertianomicon:

1. Encourage continued creation of exciting Pathfinder 1E 3rd party content and financial support of content creators.

2. Encourage posting of Pathfinder 1E 3rd party content to SRDs for discovery and convenience.

3. Encourage creation of tools to help people find and enjoy 3rd party content that is right for their group (optimization guides, builds, reviews, etc.).
