Does the percentage increase if you ride your bike parallel to a runway as a jet takes off and you pump your first into the air?

At that point you might be overdoing it and it becomes not cool again. Unless you overdo it so much that it becomes so extremely uncool that it becomes cool again. The coolest of cools: ironically uncool.

I think that's how it works.

I do not know who that is, so I don't know. I'm guessing that either makes me very cool or very uncool. Probably uncool as cool people don't talk about how cool they are.

Clearly the coolest of cool things to do with an explosion is to stare at it unflinching and without reacting, because it shows how completely professional you are. Also you should tie your hair into a topknot that kinda looks like a pistol hammer.

This is why I don't engage in irony beyond conventional sarcasm.

It is a maddening road. I have seen what becomes of those who go too far into such ironic depths. Such humor was only funny when the Striders from Homestuck was doing it, but now they become a prediction of how far internet culture would descend, to the point that now people do it so much that one can no longer tell whats a joke anymore or what some people truly believe. It is a form of humor very vulnerable to Poe's law and can attract people who think your being serious about what your making a joke about.
I'm also on discord as "raziere".

Is this an allergy based "can't eat"? Because it's really funny to me, this mental image of grandma going "no! Let me poison myself!" and you just, dragging her away from the jar of jam with the most deadpan look on your face.

    Yes, she's allergic.

We were discussing recipes, we mentioned what goes in a homemade cranberry sauce, and she's like "where're the walnuts."

Personally, I don't think a sauce should be crunchy. I didn't even know she was allergic till after the conversation.

Fascinating. Reminds me of all the people who are lactose intolerant and still eat ice cream... but to do it for walnuts, which are way more lethal and way less tasty, so, it strikes me as weird.

    Still here for it.

Didn't know this was an existing setting. Do you have other works in the same setting? Is the Hidden Embers you mentioned one of them? Any completed? Or do you mean that you built the world before the novel, and now you're introducing it?

Speculation on the Friar was that he was a wind dervish type who had fallen in with the Exovans. I wondered if he was their "captain" who "died". Was also wondering if he had a more personal connection to Saila, and also exuded gasoline from his skin - the bit about the peaches hinted at that. But the timelines don't quite match up there. Unless he's both...

I did wonder if Noble was the manticore. But there wouldn't have been much point to it.

Yes! I'm not allowed to link my own for-pay work, but I do have a published book; Cursed World Initial Sparks! You can find it on Amazon. "Mist and Fire" takes place in the same setting, just a hundred years before hand, give or take.

    Spoiler: Mist and Fire

Interesting theory! You are correct that he's the "captain who died", so not off the mark at all there.

The gasoline from the skin thing is a mystery I thought would be a lot more obvious but probably isn't- the idea is that Saila's sweat has qualities of gasoline, since she was holding Noble's hand when the soldiers showed up, so she got scared, got sweaty, left some of it on his glove. This is something I'll put a pin in for a future release one day.

Naw, Noble's not the manticore Saila encountered, he just knows what they are.

Does anyone have any thoughts about other more general ways to write "oral history"? More general cuz I wanna refer to both oral history and signed history with one clear phrase, and it's surprisingly hard to do. (Signed as in signed with a sign language, like ASL.) I've seen "narrative history," but I was curious about alternatives.

"Inherited" history perhaps, to indicate the conveying thereof from one generation to the next regardless of text or speech?

Isn't that the original meaning of "folklore"?

Really? I always thought folklore inherently included exaggerations and mythological and/or fictional portrayals of events, rather than a specific method of passing on actual history.

I'm pretty sure Folklore, while it nowadays has connotations of exaggeration or mythos, is meant to hit that same "inherited history" vibe.

The main issue, so far as I'm concerned is, rather, that folklore is a much broader term than oral history.

While that's true, that's also exactly what Tai was looking for! A more generalized term than "oral history".
