    Hells to the yesses.

It's gonna be a couple years before it's done, and while I'll probably buy the early access version I probably won't play it a ton. But I'm mega-happy this is coming back, I really liked the slow zoomed out feel of Sins, something that has been pretty neglected in more recent RTS games.

Some of the features on that article sound insane. Shifting phase lanes due to orbital mechanics making planning trips to different bodies significantly more tactical? I am absolutely ecstatic to try this out!

Just this announcement is pretty much Christmas come early for me.

If we don't see the threat the Vesari are running from, I'll riot.

On the one hand, I understand and agree. On the other, no small part of me thinks it's best unexplored. The terror or the unknown really helps you feel like the Vasari. You don't know what it is, just that it won't stop and keeps coming.

I would be excited about this game except that it's going to be an Epic exclusive for the foreseeable future. As far as I'm concerned, it's delayed until it comes out on another platform.

It was one of my favorite games at the time.
I never thought a sequel would happen, hope it's as good as the first.

I've gotten somewhere around 8 hours logged in so far. I'm really enjoying the significantly larger research mechanics and the planetary structures, as well as the component slots on the capital ships for significant customizeability. Also really loving how each military ship and structure gets a kill count in their title card.

I'm hating the visuals. The ships look like toys instead of military vessels like in the first game, but that was already expected from the trailer, and if not fixed by Stardock by release date, there will defo be mods fixing that. The menu layout and research tree layout are also horrible, but its super early access and I trust those will go through significant changes as work progresses.

The shifting phase lanes are interesting. It makes the system much trickier to manage and learning how to predict when phase lanes will come in and out of existence is going to be a major part of the game. I like it so far, but it's really tricky.

We finally see the space ponies. They wear hard hats.

I've played about 15 minutes. It's very definitely Sins, but different.

The menus are indeed currently a hot mess. Some of this is just that I have the Sins interface seared into my brain, so not being that feels weird. But also they're bad in a very obvious this is a placeholder sort of way , though I'm not really worried about it. Sins the original has a brilliant interface, I think this will too.

The ships look OK to me, I think they suffer a bit for the brighter background and more colorful, erm, color scheme, but the models are good and I dig the animated turrets. I do not like the really bright selection silhouette though. Currently what bugs me is that I can't figure out how to actually control groups of ships at all well. There doesn't seem to be a create fleet button, and move in formation does squat that I can figure.

So really rough at this point, but it kinda says that on the tin.

Have now played more Sins 2. I think I'm going to really like the rotating planets; I went and colonized one using a really long phase jump that opened up, but now it's rotated away and is cut off.

Trade is different; it's now between pairs of specific trade ports, rather than just all combined into a single route. I suspect this has to do with moving planets, but I like it, since it makes building trade ports a bit more interesting.

I think I like what they're doing with planet upgrades. It's still very simple and clean, but there's more going on there than in Sins 1. Also the planets are gorgeous and evocative; I colonized a lava world and started instantly thinking of it as a dusty backwater planet that just couldn't wait for trade to get set up with to the capital

When setting up a game you can toggle to low or classic colored ships or something like that. Makes them look loads better.

Took a bit to realize it was Epic only, i don't want to deal with them, so I guess I'll wait and hope it gets cleaned up and polished before it comes to Steam.

So there's not a lot of actual game here at the moment, like the AI doesn't exist and the (definitely WIP) research screen is just plain bad, but the mechanical foundations are excellent. I really like how much more you can do with planets than in Sins 1, and the combat feels a lot deeper as well. I'm particularly liking positioning my flak frigates as a missile screen, watching them chew through a wave of incoming munitions is just gorgeous.

Also reminds me how long it's been since we had a really good looking space strategy game. Yeah yeah I know Stellaris, but the problem with looking at Stellaris is that I'd have to play Stellaris. And anyway this looks better, I particularly love watching autocannon rounds explode against shields. Just glorious.
