So do you not eat hamburgers or chicken nuggets then either?

    Those don't smell rancid.

Edit: They also, traditionally, aren't made from cuts of meat that aren't good enough to be made into sausage.

Wait, you're making a distinction between hotdogs and sausage? I thought the argument was more along the lines that they are sausage (and therefore the aforementioned statements about being made out of the garbage parts of the food)

We get the all beef dogs that Aldi sells. They are so much better than the chicken/pork abominations that I cannot go back. I'm sure Hebrew National is better, I just don't have enough budget for them.

That said, I grew up on chicken/pork dogs. My parents were ... frugal in all things. They still are frugal in most things, but I think they get better food now.

Sausages have spices, for flavoring. Hot dogs, do not.

If you want to make that claim I will point out that technically all burgers should count as sausage!

Remember that despite being made from beef they were originally called "hamburgers" because they came from Hamburg in Germany and I would think they were probably orignally slices of Hamburg Sausage...

What I consider a problem in the UK is that beef sausages have finally vaished from the freezer sections of the supermarkets (including pork & beef sausages)... It's now usually pork or chicken only!

Hamburgers weren't originally Hamburg sausage, they were Hamburg steak.

The modern hamburger is descended from the hamburger sandwich, which was a hamburg steak on toast with cheese and mustard.

Hamburg steak was created when he Germans go their hands on the Russian steak tartar and decided "okay, what if we actually cook this stuff."

Steak tartar being chopped or ground beef with onions served raw.

The Russians got the idea for that from observing the dining habits of the Mongols, who they called "Tartars" who would put slices of beef wrapped in parchment under their saddles and the pressure from being in-between hore and writer, plus the body heat of horse and rider, all day would result in a very tender cut of meat that the Mongols would eat raw.

So hamburgers are technically Mongolian food.

Additionally, it's not a sausage unless it's got an intestinal wrapper around the meat. Hamburger's don't have this, they're just molded meat patties. It'd be like saying a meatloaf is a sausage.

... oh god this feels like another "is a hotdog a sandwich" style phrasing but somehow More Wrong.

To quote my grandmother, "those who respect the law or enjoy sausage should not watch either being made". I'm sure she got it from somewhere, but I don't know where.

Spoons are the correct utensil for eating cake, even if that cake is not an ice-cream cake.

I can see eating cake that way, but salad? Everything would fall off!

...Unless you used a serving spoon instead of a regular-sized spoon, I guess. Or you diced all the ingredients in your salad really finely.

Edit: Or, I guess, if you used thick salad dressing (so not stuff like vinaigrette) and used enough to glue the ingredients together, but that would be disgusting.

Hot Take: Salad dressing is gross. I just pour lemon juice all over my salads instead.

In 20 years, the majority of global population will be wearing shoes with no laces. In another 20 years, people will look back at shoelaces as a historical anomaly and wonder why/how they lasted so long.

I haven't bought shoes with laces in about 12 years.

I do, in fact, and have for 10+ years, in three different locations.

No-no-no, they have plenty of slip-on steel-toe options to choose from. I will need a better example from you, sir.

    Ok.

I was going to offer my job, which is one in a very large field, which slip ons (which I am a very big fan of) would absolutely not work, but that link does all my work for me)

On the shoelaces front I would say that they will disappear unless the shoe-manufacturers can sort out how to make them properly.

My last pair of walking shoes suffered from the laces being unable to stay done up. Modern artificial fibres are not only smoother and slipperier but enable a tighter weave to be used to make the laces with the result that they had laces that would not grip themselves and thus could not stay done up.
Eventually I bought cotton laces to replace them which worked fine. When I replaced the shoes (same manufacturer, the newer version of the same model) the new laces were better - the weave pattern obviously being designed to give a rougher finish - but better did not mean good enough - I have swapped in the cotton laces I bought for the previous pair as a necessity.
Same story for my walking boots.

Laces have both advantages and disadvantages, but unless shoe manufacturers can re-learn how they should make the things, the market of people that know to go and buy alternatives that work will not be enough to save them from the manufacturers' incompetence!
