R2T23: Since it's right there, Alexandru decides to go ahead and relieve the green skeleton of its undeath and tries to bash it with his hammer, but the skeleton proves faster than expected as it ducks away.

R2T22: Zauberei stepsforward to the east of Marius and attacks the skeleton with his staff. It is a beautiful strike that hits the skeleton square in the sternum and along the side of the rids ... and was so weakly swing that it just clacks against its bone, doing nothing.

R2T17: Pink sidesteps away from the mass of attackers and claws at Hargrimm's armor, just as Green performs the same futility against Alexandru.

R2T12: Wren practically leapfrogs over Zauberei to stand in front of him protectively, threatening the skeleton with the staff.

Marius readied himself to use that same counter last round, if it triggered, but I did not see this ability checked off as used on Marius' sheet or mentioned in the last round. Thus, I am assuming it is still fair game for him to use this round. If that is not the case, that's fine too.

Alexandru collects and sheathes his sword, choosing to keep his hammer at the ready, and looks at the others, ready to move on.

Hargrimm thanks Wren for his handing back his staff, and reignites his hand with a vortex of light in exchange for his horn vanishing.

"I believe that from now on we should be treating all unfamiliar corpses as undead. A quick search of these skeletons, for keys in particular, wouldn't be a bad idea either." Hargrimm says as he puts his plan into action.

Retrieving the quarterstaff, moving two essence from Sparkling Alicorn into Banelight Vortices, and beginning to (respectfully) roll the bodies for loot.

There are no bodies.

Something that has happened with every various type of corporeal undead you have fought thus far ... zombies, skeletons, crawling hands. Once an undead is destroyed, its body combusts from inside and throughout, so that ash falls to the ground without a corpse. Because also thus far they've worn or had nothing exceptional, whatever rags they wore likewise get burned up.

There is nothing to loot.

"I know we're keen to do what we think we're doing. But I still say that we check rooms carefully," says Wren. "It's the detective in me, I know."

The stairway here once led up to area S9 above, but the deadfall has rendered it impassable. The party's search discover scratches along the rubble and stone blocks—testimony to the prisoners’ futile attempts to dig out the deadfall from below.

The brass nameplates that hang above each of the four hallways leading out of this room identify the cellblocks that lie beyond, although the soot must be wiped away to reveal these names.

To the north lies “The Oubliette.”

To the west lies “Reaper’s Hold.”

To the south lies “The Nevermore.”

And to the east once stretched “Hell’s Basement.”

This was a vast area (70' x 60'), so the whole affair took over 5-1/2 hours, with only the first four hours being helped by Wren (remainder of his first usage, and then the next three hours). There is definitely a lot of grumbling from those that don't realize what a careful search really entails, while the more meticulous, thorough, or experienced understand that is simply par for the course.

Zauberei's mage armor will have faltered by now. Marius' ant haul has less than a handful of moments before it is done.

While you could push on today, Marius and Zauberei both feel a sort of mental fatigue as all of the searching was extremely taxing on these knowledge workers.

Do you quit for the day and return to Lorrimor House?

Marius nods his agreement as well. "Best to get home and dry off before the protective spells are fully depleted. We have enough to stave off the cold until then... right?"

Marius also takes this time to prepare another extract of ant haul for the return journey.

It may not be pretty, but the party will manage severally to make it up the rope and Jacob's ladder, which in turn are secured and packed.

Zauberei invests his time in devotion to Nethy in which he will study different spells he rarely uses in his spellbook, in hopes that new discoveries will help him against all these undead.

Tippy and Angelo will do some research on the notable inmates using the prison records. Perhaps there is something that will help figure out how to best put them to rest.
