I think its safe to assume he wont stay alone in the entrance and that the group will walk and remain together.

I never assume anything about character actions, its a surefire path to arguments and bickering when those assumed actions lead to injury and/or death. It also shows the player is still actively following the game.

Also, I really like doing the initiative this way, it makes the fight feel much more dynamic.
