I have been asked to collect some of my Homebrew into .pdf's. So I'm here to ask how I convert a .doc file into a pdf, and is there a file sharing service that isn't sketch?

Use a "print to PDF" print driver. That's easy to do in Windows since at least Windows 7. I don't have any familiarity with the process in Mac OS, Linux, or other OSes.

For actually sharing them, Dropbox is an easy option. You can also use Google Drive.

For completeness sake: on older systems or systems that just don't have an internal PDF printer for some other reason CutePDF works pretty well.

Using .doc files appears to be a no go. The longer 5e statblocks are cut off at the end of each page. Looks like I'll ned to try something else.

Import the doc into google drive. You can adjust the margins. Export as pdf

Try setting a custom page size that is larger - also if using Word view in Draft mode - that way you can see tables that don't fit the page area.

It's been built into Macs at least since the introduction of OSX. Anything that can print can print to PDF (it's an option in the print dialog box).

Setting the page length to 20 inches seems to be just big enough. Unfortunately it either broke the file or they never saved properly, as the 5e statblocks had a 50/50 shot of disappearing.

For posterity sake, I'm running windows 11, and I just copy/paste all text into a Google doc, then potentially need a little reformatting for easy of read and precenting tables from text-wrapping.

I'm confused, if you're using a .doc file that means you're using actual Microsoft Word, right? Hasn't Word had "Save as PDF" available directly from the File menu for at least the last decade, without needing to go to the Print function?

The fact that he has .doc files suggests that he uses a version of Word from before 2007. Since then its been .docx
My preferred version of Word is 2 decades old. I have to use a recent version at work and I don't like the way most of it operates. Save as PDF is perhaps the best part of the newer versions, but not enough to make me update at home. I did consider installing my older version at work, but everyone else is using .docx and I'd be constantly converting their files in order to use them.
