Default Rod of Shadow Blending Book

I have a note to review the Rod if Shadow Blending but cannot recall what book it is from and have been unable to find a reference online. Does anyone happen to know what book that rod is from? Thank you!

Well, to narrow it down for the next person, it's neither Tome of Magic nor the Magic Item Compendium.

What do you remember about what it does?

I believe it converts a handful of (figment) spells into higher level Shadow Conjuration/Evocation spells.

Complete Mage p128 and 129, not the full item I am posting but enough info for anyone not the OP to understand how useful it is,

    Rod of Shadowblending is activated…
Activation: A rod of shadowblending requires a swift action to activate. You must take advantage of its power within 2 rounds of activation, or the charge dissipates and you must activate it again. It can be activated up to three times per day.
Effect: A rod of shadowblending infuses your normal illusions with shadow, making them partially real. This effect allows you to transform any casting of either minor image or major image into a casting of shadow conjuration, and any casting of major image into shadow evocation.
    Price: 9,000 gp.
If we pull back the veil and looking at the effect and pricing. It is a rod of empower (+2 metamagic) lesser that is going to allow a 2nd level spell to be treated as a 4th level spell in exchange for wealth and your swift action. Likewise the same for a 3rd level spell to emulate a 5th level spell.

Left unclear in the text is what level of the spell is the final result? Can we use it to emulate a 3rd level conjuration spell effect with a 2nd level spell dc or is it a 4th level spell dc?

Thank you! It is a very cool item for certain build. I like your comparison to a MM rod of Empower, Lesser.

It is ironic for I am working for an illusion specialist currently (pathfinder pact wizard with shadow patron, also 3.5, 3rd Party, and some homebrew)

Did not think about using this item earlier, but may I need it to give more 2nd and 3rd level spell versatility 🤔

Note a runestaff is sometimes better even if it’s not as versatile, yet it is much cheaper.

I am pretty sure it copies the Shadow Conjuration/Evocation as those spells are printed in the PHB, meaning you can use a 3rd lvl spell slot to emulate a 4th level spell (through Shadow Evocation). Another post on Shadowcraft Mage shenanigans encouraged me to dust off some notes for an illusion/Shadow Conjuration/Evocation guide I previously started drafting to see if I can develop a useful product:p.
