You know, that's fair. I can keep my national dunking restricted solely to England. Which would pribably make me even more popular in the rest of the UK, to boot.

Much like New York, there are no people who enjoy living in Philly, only people who can't leave or people who have Stockholm Syndrome.

When I was in middle school I once had to wear my brother's shirt with the logo of a football team that I do not in fact support on it.

Walking into... It wasn't called Home Ec, but it was Home Ec, that day this one ****head who made it a habit to pick on me looked at the shirt, looked at me, loudly and obnoxiously said "*team* suck!" and then seemed a bit put out when I agreed.

It's not like we've fought enough wars against you to have started pillaging cuisine. But why would we want to when we can just have another crack at the French? (One day their snails will be mine!)

At least until you unintentionally insult haggis. Then the Scots will decide that, in reality, you're probably English.

Engkand not faring well isn't the same as France faring well. Both could come off pretty badly for all of it. For example, we have two countries that warred constantly despite neither gaining any real territorial hold in the others' land, despite even having England having French monarchs and France having English monarchs and both having the same monarchs*. Its more like two people having a very ineffective slap fight - threats of "well we'll just go back to raid France again!" cue eye rolls.

Personally I've found dumping on the French (or really any country) has lost it's taste over the years, so suffice to say I don't really Get It, but y'all enjoy yourselves.

(that's not to say there aren't things worth prodding at with a sharp stick, just that there should be a purpose beyond the poking.)

Its like dumping on Quebec if you arent from there, or dumping on the Rest Of Canada if you are from there. Its just a thing you do.

I typically dont dump on the French unless its in relation to England, or silly Frenchitudes (read: them trying to purify their super-Frenchy Frenchness, eg the Académie Française). Basically stuff the French themselves are also likely to dump on, or at least can't really refute.

The only things worth kicking Quebec about is stuff I can't legally say on the forum. Them being weird Not-Frenches who non-the-less wish to embrace everything Francophone is silly but not really insult worthy, imho.

Thus my comment about the poking stick and when it should be employed, yeah.

There are a LOT of cities in the US named after places elsewhere in the world.

Including other places in the US. >.>
