Leylek bows with the rest, more respectfully than before. This is the Prince himself, after all. The Warbringer, if luck will have it. By your command. he receives his order, reiterated by the sergeant, his voice dry and official, suppressing all undertones of offense over being relegated to guard duty yet again. Once outside, he's quick to rise into the air as instructed, scanning the lamplit crowd below thoroughly, but with mild interest – and mild displeasure. Don't these people know dignity? Know better than to swarm about like that?

No matter; he is to watch and not to judge. Mentally reminding himslef not to get startled by the fireworks (in that regard, the trip might not have been in vain, ultimately), he weaves left and right in the darkness up above, keeping the procession's pace.

    Hayato and Ahalyā

You see Onka dive into the crowd smoothly, captured by the music. There's a feeling of rapture in the crowd, humans reverting to their essence of animals. Soon there's a good amount of people separating you from Onka, who continues moving and dancing through the people towards the temple as all ascend. Behind you, about two hundred yards, you see the people opening up and the head of the Dragon emerge, surrounded by poles carrying lamps and the rhythmic sound of drums.

Ahalya, you can respect the ancient rituals and the eerie music.

Hayato, there's too many people, your instincts drive you to notice the rooftops and parallel alleys that could provide escape routes.

    Onka

Moving through the crowd proves more difficult than in the morning, people are drunk and their patterns more difficult to predict. Yet, in a matter of moments, you are halfway trough the first part of the way, almost at the edge of town where the houses give way to the curated terraced gardens. Here people start to find places under the trees to watch the Dragon and the stone stairs become less crowded. The sun gives way to a pale new moon and a starry sky and people take on a ghostly look with their lanterns.

Up you see the sugenja and the priests coming down to meet the dragon at the gate. You could perform there...

    Leylek

The night is going to be dark. You know that much. You don't spot anything else than the moving crowd taking places along the main street and the stony stairs as a river that flows backward from the port to the mountains.

Suddenly, a light flares up the sky on the other side of they lagoon and people cheer. Seconds later, more flares fly up towards the sky and explode in all manners of colors and shapes. Drums beat harder.

    Rakhsha and Ahalyā

Poor Rakhsha is disgusted by the fireworks and you can feel how the wave of spirits is disrupted by the explosions.

The Dragon is now 250 feet from Hayato and Ahalya...

Climbing to a house requieres a Climb DC of 15 and you can run on the rooftops with a balance check of 15. Missing by 10 means you fall. Finally sensing how uncomfortable Raksha is, Ahalyā nodded "Yes, yes, we go. Find spirits and try to calm them down. Too much noise!"

"About time," murmured the wolf with a slight whimper, only heard by Ahalyā's ears. Vanara and wolf tried to start going back down -- or at least away from the crowds, maybe find a side passage or an alley to make their way to the outskirts and, through there, to the woods.

The view was perfect. The ghostly people with they're lanterns, the starry sky the procession getting towards the gate, metting the dragon. It was simply ideal. Just a bit more way towards the gate. Quickly he try'd to obtain two lanterns, to set the right illumination and rushed towards the gate, setting the two lanterns to shed him in the mysterious light like the people and begins his performance when he's sure the procession can see him.

Already beginning with movements that seem more martial and dangerous than a normal performance, Onka was breathing heavily, his hair, now unchained flew around his head like it was a being not attached to the dancer, when he performed delicate, precise and agressive movements.

A little victory is achieved, and the fireworks fail to surprise Leylek at all, but, dislike it as he may, this doesn't make the spectacle any less loud. Or bright, for that matter, dancing in the corner of his eyes. Combined with the unruly crowd, the dubious luminosity the lamps provide and the tightly packed roofs of the village below… This is when he'd strike. He, or anyone with half a mind. The trusted flying sentinel that he is must stay alert now, more than ever.

    Onka

There's no need for borrowed lamps for effects, and no time to convince people, the circle around the gate is lit appropriately with colored paper lamps and the glow of the fireworks above.
Instead you focus on binding Iron Fist: You dance and trace his sigil amidst the crowd and your hands take the color of steel. But while your hurried attempt succeeds, you make a bad pact and feel the voice, in language you don't speak, murmur in your head.

    Ahalya

Moving to down the street you find a space in between two houses with a high stone foundation, you climb there and feel immediate relief from the crowd. Not from the noise. From there, you peer up the stonestairs and see Onka dancing feverishly; and then the spirit of a man, clear to your eyes that pierce the void, dancing alongside Onka, 10 feet tall, and merging with the young dancer.

    Hayato

You move swiftly to the houses on the side and climb with ease, but the roof of the house you chose is slippery with ice and you fall prone on the edge of the roof, scarcely managing to remain perched there. You kneel on the roof collecting yourself.

    Leylek
Now you'd stike! This has the smell of an ambush and you grow tense with the noise and the shifting lights. Then as the fireworks lit the night, you see someone perched on a roof, crouched in a stalking position, not 150' away from the Dragon's head. and about 300' away from you.

"Maybe he isn't aware?" Raksha suggested.

"Oooh, this could be bad, Raksha -- I did not prepare the blessing to protect against the bad spirits today! He could be in danger!" Ahalyā rapped the side of her head with her knuckles. "Ohhh, think think think think think!"

Not all spirits were hostile to mortals. And this one appeared to be dancing before it merged into Onka. Maybe it wanted to experience the dance better?

The feathers around Leyleks eyes arrange themselves in such a fashion that is difficult to describe the image as anything other than an irate frown. There it is; what he's been waiting for, throughout these years. The promise of a real fight, a fated fight. One that matters. His beak opens wide in a silent, wordless cry and his feet kick out grabbing at the air. With some luck, the regent's men are bright enough to make sure someone watches for his signals: given his orders, that's all he can do without revealing his position. Instead of wasting any more time, he turns slightly in the air and shoots forward, descending like an arrow towards… The empty air some 20 feet behind the skulker.

    Spoiler: OOC
    Show

Alright. This might not work, but hear me out. A creature with a fly speed can run in a straight line through air. Leylek has a 20' fly speed, which is 80' per round when running. Now, if he is 40' up (I never specified, but he can reach that altitude in 2 rounds, so he had plenty of time to do so) and the roof with the skulker is no taller than 15/20' or so, he should be able to travel along a clear downwards pointing trajectory, doubling the above speed figure. With 160' of movement, he should be able to reach the designated point in a round. I'll adjust that as needed.

Now, a ridiculously unlikely Stealth: (1d20-8)[12] (+12, -20 for running); I hope the fireworks will help with that; and
Perception: (1d20+5)[24] to scan the skulker once close enough.

Onka felt the whisper he sometimes heard when initiating the traditional dance and felt a rush of confidence surging through him. He become more boldly, grasping some lamps, flinging them in the air imitating the flickering flames, using his hands and feet to juggle the lanterns, getting more rash and riskier with every sharp breath he took.

It didn't even really mattered anymore if he got the attention of the prince, only the movements mattered, the flames and the rush of halfway getting up a building, grasping the lanterns, getting them higher and higher in the air, catching them to get them back to the ground.

Onka is a binder, or at least has the ability to bind vestiges, spirits lost in the Void that cannot be free. Whether you approve that or not, is up to you. But what you just witnessed is the binding of a vestige.

    Onka

Your frenetic dance draws the attention of the crowd who cheer and start clearing the way for you.

    Leylek and Hayato

Despite your clumsy flight, the noise of the fireworks is too loud and Hayato does not see you approaching. You see a crouched man, holding his balance on a flimsy rooftop, apparently unarmed.

    Everyone

...but right at that moment, the world seems to pause with a boom.. a loud explosion 100' feet from the rooftop where Hayato is crouching shakes the street to the ground and screams of panic and pain come from everywhere, dense smoke and debris filling the air in a 20' cloud.
And screams of alarm and alert.

The skulker might seem unarmed; but he fights unarmed himself. And assassins tend to know how to conceal the tools of their trade. This gives the bird a moment of pause; but then, all explodes into motion and sound. An ambush! Leylek mouths silent curses in the old tongue of his people. An ambush on his watch. This puts the skulker's presence in an all new context as well. His blood begins to boil with fury. He'll not take his chances. The crane shoots forward, legs outstretched. Battle starts amidst the cloud of dust and debris. The sound of steel against steel is audible even through the screams of panic a pain. The crowd attempts to disperse.

The samurais and the regent's men fall back into a defensive circle around the regent and Genji. The regent is unnarmed, but Genji wields his famous katana. and yells instructions to his men.

One of them cleaves through two of the attacking mob ripping his head out of the hooded shoulders. There are a dozen of them, wielding iron clubs. But from where you are, you see they are not the real threat, as figures emerge on the rooftops of the adjacent buildings.

As this takes place (during initiative 21 and 19), Leylek crashes against an unsuspecting Hayato, sending the Ninja tumbling down the rooftop into a canvas flas that slows the fall to the street.

Leylek himself almost tumbles down, but manages to barely hover and stay aloft. (This happedened at the end of the previous turn).

The crowd moves away, though some join the samurai in fightning the assailants.

This cannot stand, not a moment further. While more attackers using the high ground helps reinforce the notion his previous target was no innocent bystander, getting back up and a weapon ready will cost the man some time. The regent and the prince are getting mobbed now. Turning, the crane kicks himself forward in the air, shooting towards the tumult with talons ready. But the samurai are already protecting the regent, they are clearly powerful individuals and the sohei are currently outnumbered. And it seems they are also people on the rooftops! The circle of enemies fights with brutality against the samurai and the few brave villagers that join their ranks. Some other carry the wounded away from the fight. The explosion sent fragments of clay and shrapnel.

Two samurais, a human an a kenku, protect the regent and fend off three attackers, while Genji strikes dead two more with swift move of his blade, he is indeed a legendary warrior.

But the threat from above is deadly, the rooftop erupt with a series of darts from long blowguns. Two of the samurai fall down grasping their throats and Genji gets hits twice.

As a large lion materializes in the middle of the street, children, women, men run in despair.

Onka rushes towards the nearest house, and jumps on, leaning on a barrel, then a post, then the roof, from there, he can see the enemies drawn against the dusk lights and a bright yellow moon, they are 50' away. (The Sohei are on the other side of the plaza opposite the first line of houses)

Leylek flies from roof to roof and bashes an enemy in the face... or so he thinks, at the last moment, the ninja in the rooftop turns his head and rolls with the blow, negating your momentum and possibly sending you down. you are caught by surprise by the technique.

Onka, still angry, rushes towards the attackers on the roof, jumps in the air and try's to kick one of them as hard as possible. If he can avoid them doing more harm than they're already done, he would do so.

    Spoiler: OOC

Onka charges the nearest attacker. With his movement he should be able to. With the current rules I guess I can't do another attack combined with a charge? And if yes I can do so but without the charge damage bonus added twice? In case I can make another attack, I'll roll it. (thanks for Two-Weapon-Fighting for granting another attack!)

Leylek's eyes narrow, even as he foils the brazen attempt at foiling him. How DARE you?! he screeches; what exactly is dared (assaulting the regent? The Prince? Not dying when kicked in the face by a bird?) Leylek is not entirely sure. But he does feel anger, no, righteous fury welling up inside him as he whirls around to kick and peck.

Leylek, your first kick impacts squarely on the ninja's face and he rolls back on a dime, clearly hurt but still very much able to fight, before your next flurry of attacks, he spins around unimpeded by the narrow surface of the roof and stabs as he draws a concealed dagger that catches you flatfooted, besides the damage you feel a creeping cold clinging to your limbs, making it more difficult to kick back.

None the less, your two next kicks strike true and you hear bone snapping as the second one makes the ninja's knee cave in and he tumbles down the roof.

    Spoiler: OoC

Clinging Shadow Strike Wisdom DC 13 you take 9 damage. Roll the save but I already rolled the miss chance as if you had missed it and you passed both

The closest ninja (you can see three aligned on your side of the roof and three more on the other side were a flamboyant folk is also kicking their butts) shoots at you with his blowgun and hits you with a tiny dart.

    Spoiler: OoC

Onka Your charge is met with an evasive maneuver

    Spoiler: OoC

Counter charge, Dex or Str check vs 14 if you pass it both your kicks land home

The ninja seems like almost tip toeing on the roof, and strikes at you with a concealed dagger, flat footed, the attack lands and the ninja becomes invisible

    Spoiler: OoC
    Show
Drain Vitality: take 6 damage and make a Fort save DC 15 or take 2 Constitution damage. Then the Ninja becomes invisible

The other ninja let another barrage of darts fly towards the samurai and genji, hitting the kenku samurai twice. But the battle below seems favorable for your group as Genji and his swordmaster manage to push the perimeter and take the regent inside a house.

Up in the plaza, the sohei are outnumbered, but handle themselves pretty well, even the villagefolks who initially ran, are now picking stones and tools.

…or so he thinks he will. The enraged bird brushes the dart aside a heartbeat before it could hit with an annoyed flick of his wing. No. Leylek hisses ominously. The dagger of the first one actually hurt; but this? This only makes him more angry. And they hurt another bird down there as well! No more of that. Aided by his wings, the crane slides forward and strikes again.

Deflect Arrows! The dart never had a chance. Now, what follows depends on a couple of things. For the sake of simplicity, I'll assume the ninjas are humans and he can get close enough to the closest with a 5' step (all I know is that the guy can't be adjacent, seeing how there was no AoO); if that's not correct, subtract 2 from the damage (Favoured Enemy; I forgot about it the first time) and add a 2 to the first attack, ignoring the second:
    (1d20+6)[12] for (1d8+6)[7]; and
    (1d20+6)[9] for (1d8+6)[10]

When the assailants grips Onka's leg and threw him off he was shocked for a moment. When he landed his raging anger had simmered down, he took in the enemy's and his (possible) allies and just breathed in.

He runs towards the ninja who countered his first attack, ducked under a swipe and ram his ellbow into his side, rolling away from a possible counter attack, towards the next ninja and delivering a brutal scythe kick towards his legs, jumping away from the second to the third assailant to deliver a jumping kick towards that one.

    Onka breathed out.

Leylek, you deflect the poisonous dart and lunge forward, your two crane kicks miss the opponent, who expertly dodges both attacks and launches a riposte himself, off balance, he misses widely before crouching just in time as the other ninja flies over him to land a kick of his own on you.

They are standing next to each other, but their coordination is perfect and deadly.

The first one misses you twice, but the other hits you with a charge for 6 damage (terrible rolls) and then they are standing in forn of you, but you feel flanked

    Below, a roar is heard...

Onka, you tip toe your deadly dance over the rooftop of two hoses, causing havoc and hitting hard every single enemy with your iron fists. The feeling of arrogance and superiority gives you a rush. The first enemy drops dead from the roof.

The remaining two ninjas move toward you and lunge forward striking in unison, you manage to dodge one of their attacks but you are met with the sharp end of a wakizashi, that cuts deep into your right arm.

Thanks to Leylek and Onka stopping the barrage of poisonous darts, the samurai gain ground and push the enemies back, towards a lion a wolf and a monkey...

The sugenja and the sohei of the temple have their battle under control, or so it seems.

"HO! This battle is lost -- lay down your arms and surrender and you may yet be shown mercy!" The vanara cried out towards the enemy. Raksha bared her teeth in a snarl and the lion roared its challenge, readying a pounce if any dared to attack their little trio.

Leylek shifts up towards the crest of the roof, hissing menacingly (mainly to conceal his hissing from the pain, but still). I don't care how many of you's there. he declares with grim fury. He pecks and he kicks, once more, weaving dark power into the first strike. There will be fewer. Soon.

Feeling great and powerful and not even slightly concerned about the blood running down his arm. Who needs arms, when you can do this!
