Re: Dragon Superheroes
There's some?
Image Comics has Firebreather (half-dragon)
Marvel has Moondragon who... sort of ate a dragon to gain the ability to become it? Along with Dragon Man who, while technically an android and often an antagonist, still sort of fits? If you're willing to stretch the definition a little, the various Iron Fists gain their power from a dragon's chi. Eddie Brock, while acting as the King in Black, has the power to summon (create?) and control symbiote dragons. Another sort-of-dragon is Lockheed, Kitty Pryde's pet/partner-in-crime, who's actually a dracoform alien, despite being reptilian, winged, and a firebreather.
There's also a surprising number of intelligent villainous dragons, most of them courtesy of Thor (Jormungand the World Serpent, Nidhogg Corpse-Eater, and Fafnir of Nastrond), although oddly one of the best-known villainous dragons is primarily an Iron Man foe- Fin Fang Foom.
DC has... huh. I'm honestly drawing a bit of a blank for dragons, either good or bad. Best I can come up with off the top of my head is Martian Manhunter occasionally turning into a dragon-like form.
*looks it up*
Huh again. It's not my memory failing me- there just... aren't really a lot of dragon characters in DC, and no heroes by the look of it.Times being what they are, the stars aligning and the End of All Things barely registered as background noise.
At a bit of a loss as to what to do next, and with bills to pay, a certain Elder Thing has taken up bartending.
This is...

Re: Dragon Superheroes
I would also humbly propose Jake Long, the titular character of the Disney cartoon Jake Long: American Dragon.
While it's cartoons instead of comics, the show hits a lot of the same beats as any other "high school student fights crime on the side in an alter ego," such as Spider Man cartoons or Danny Phantom.

Re: Dragon Superheroes
I'm pretty sure Savage Dragon just looks fairly lizard-like. I think he's actually an alien

Re: Dragon Superheroes
Worm has both Dragon (themed giant mecha tinker), and Lung (draconic shapeshifter), though the second is not by almost any measure a hero.

Re: Dragon Superheroes
Here's a deep cut. In Marvel's Alpha flight in the 90s, they introduced a chinese superhero called Jade Dragon. I believe he was a mutant, but I'm not sure. Either way he was trained and worked for the Chinese government, specifically in actions on the Tibetan border. He literally turned into a green dragon.
Here's a even deeper cut. In Marvel's x-men in the 80s, during the mutant massacre, the first on-panel death of the Morklocks was Scaleface, a morlock mutant who also turned into a dragon. I don't actually know if she had any other appearances before or since.

Re: Dragon Superheroes
Fred, wears a moster-themed powered armor.
He's based on a comics character who goes by Fredzilla, an Ainu guy with the power to turn into a Kaiju.
Though Marvel retired him, along with the rest of the Comics version f Big Hero 6, when the Disney Animated version became successful enough to launch a franchise. Didn't want to have competing versions of the characters diluting the brand.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: Dragon Superheroes
My Hero Academia has Ryukyu Tatsuma. Essentially her quirk (mutation) gives her most of the abilities you'd expect from a dragon, such as flight, hardened scales, strength etc. I don't think she has a breath weapon however.
Fairy Tail has a number of dragon-themed heroes, though in reality they're wizards whose magic partially transmutes them into dragons so that they can more effectively fight them. This includes the main character, Natsu Dragneel.Plague Doctor by Crimmy

Re: Dragon Superheroes
Siegfried killed a dragon and became part dragon himself when he bathed in the dragons blood willingly or not willingly depending on the tradition (lots of blood comes out of dragon when the dragon falls on top of you while you two fight with your holy sword piercing the dragon’s armoured hide.) Then now Superhero Siegfried became like some versions of Achilles where he was invulnerable except at one spot which was covered by a leaf and thus the dragon blood did not cover up that area.
Siegfried also gain other super powers from the dragon blood like being able to talk to animals, super strength, etc what powers depends on which telling of the myth. Furthermore he has magic artifacts like the sword Gram / Balmung, cloak of invisibility, etc but many of these other artifacts do not come from the dragon*. Likewise Siegfried and Sigurd were likely one story with multiple telling but then diverged due to language, culture, time and space drift with many poets retelling an oral collection of stories.
But once the dragon was dead other humans war and strived with Siegfried over the treasure, so it was like a death curse by the dragon on Siegfried where now your destiny is tied to a thing and you are no longer in complete control even if you are superhuman, the social, and the world itself is now against you even though Siegfried tried his best to do good things. In many ways Siegfried is an alternate tale of a hero trying to do good and be responsible like Peter Parker, yet the best things about him also attract a curse that is also the source of conflict and downfall of the hero and the community.
- * note though Siegfried / Sigurd also gets some of his magic artifacts from other sources like his dead daddy he never knew. His dead daddy had several encounters with Odin where Odin put a magic sword in a tree and dead daddy pulled the magic sword out of the tree to demonstrate he is worthy, this in turn was the source of daddy’s downfall / social conflict, eventually the unbreakable sword was broken by Odin, and Siegfried inherits the broken shards which was then reforged again into a new magic sword. Yes this is supposed to remind you of King Arthur, they are similar stories yet also different.
So to circle around to Bartmanhomer’s question I will argue Siegfried / Sigurd is one of the archetypal half dragon - half human archetypes. Arguably this also applies to King Arthur of the Pendragon fame for there are dozens of myths to explain his and his daddies surname of “highest commander / highest dragon” and how he is Welsh yet also the Anglo Saxons will in some stories also follow him and acknowledge him as king. (Red Dragons / wyverns are symbols tied to Welsh, White Dragons / wyverns are tied to Anglo Saxons and King Arthur’s evil Uncle Vortigern who may have worked with the Anglo Saxons. Note in these stories the Red and White fighting are sometimes these different cultures waring, but other times it is just general bad vibes with the dragons are restless causing bad things like there is a plague in the land.)Last edited by Ramza00; 2023-04-23 at 11:50 PM.

It's a video game, but the entire Breath of Fire series seems relevant here.

As far as dragon superheroes go for DC Comics, there's Ahn Kwang-Jo/Dragonson, a human/dragon hybrid who is a member of the Justice League of China as its Aqua-Man equivalent.

Re: Dragon Superheroes
If Kaiju count there is "The American Kaiju" from Marvel Comics. Now his only appearance (that I am aware of) seems to be as an antagonist, but there is certainly room for to be a hero though they seemed to waste his potential and sadly didn't do anything else with him (they didn't even include him on the U.S.Avengers which was a collaborative team between Sunspot's Avengers and the U.S. Government that formed shorty after American Kaiju was introduced and (I think) by the same writers that created him.)

Re: Dragon Superheroes
He appeared three times.
His intro-appearance, his second appearance where he went AWOL and joined a villain who was trying to create a formula that turned people into monsters in order to restore his own powers, then he was around in the King In Black storyline, being deployed by the Government to fight Symbiote-Dragons. He ate several of them and then reverted to human form and had to be evacuated hen he got overwhelmed.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.
