This comes up quite a bit, and I can't fully dismiss it because MitD specifically mentioning that he remembers his dad could be the grounds for some foreshadowing. But, I still have to bet against it, because I think for the story purposes, MitD needs to make the decision to switch sides because of his own conscience and what he thinks is right, not because "Oh, my long-lost dad is on the other side so I guess I should be too."

Also, given thne track record of biological fathers in the story so far, there's a 99% chance the Monster's was absent from most of his life, a really bad person, a really bad parent or all three of those. I don't expect much to come from that comment, honestly.[/SOMEWHATJADED]

Exposition I guess? I don't think you need to bring in the dad for that, and frankly it seems like an easy way to cheapen the reveal by having a second, bigger MiTD hanging around in the wings.

I'd maybe be more for this if there was stronger foreshadowing for something like this, but honestly it'd kind of come out of nowhere.

Here’s my personal (admittedly very basic) predictions!

Ones that I feel would be dramatically/thematically appropriate:

• 20 GP says the final gate will be destroyed. This will either release the Snarl or draw the Obligatory Big Climactic Battle into the rifts.
• A jar of assorted eyeballs says Redcloak and MitD will both fully turn against Xykon. I’m fairly certain MitD will start actively working with the heroes, but for Reddie, it’s up in the air whether he’ll have a change of heart or just decide to finally cut Xykon loose.
• A lizard’s tongue says Roy will get to use the Spellsplinter Maneuver against Xykon. (Possibly parallel structure to their fight on the zombie dragon?)
• One sprig of mistletoe says Belkar will die the same way Kraagor did—sacrificing himself to save his party from the Snarl.

Ones that are entirely self-indulgent, unlikely, and more “gee whiz I’d love it if this happens” than actual predictions:

• Two bat wings say that close to the Obligatory Big Climactic Battle, Sabine will drop the IFCC and start working with the Order. Something about the way she’s characterized in book five smacks of ‘actually, I like mortals and don’t want them to all die.’ (Also, she’ll get a new outfit!)
• One shiny bauble says Belkar and Vaarsuvius will have some kind of genuine heart-to-heart, possibly pseudo-romantic in nature. (It’s probably the shippy/fanfiction-y part of my brain talking here, but their dynamic is super fascinating. It’s incredibly unlikely that V will reciprocate any attraction, but there’s still some scraps of evidence that say Belkar might genuinely be harboring unrequited feelings or did so in the past.) Either way, I think having a scene where they talk it out would not only further their individual character developments, but also would be a good opportunity for the prank war/New Year’s shenanigans to come full circle.

the Azurites' situation on the island is going to improve with time. Right now they're still rebuilding and adjusting--like, the nobles are holding meetings in a cave! What I meant by "rebuilt Azurite settlement" was something reminiscent of Azure City pre-Gobbotopia but on an island scale, which is still more built-up than what they have now. (I did say those end-of-the-list predictions were self-indulgent.)

I personally think that Elan's mom would be elated to meet Haley. A scene like that is a good opportunity to balance sweet fluff and humor, so if it doesn't wind up in the comic proper, I might write something about it.
