I think she thought Prende's Lantern was there.

Concur. It think the Lady was after Prende's Lantern, for reasons of her own (probably having to do with creating a Storm King with her as a power behind the throne - guessing). Once she found The Winslow where she expected the lantern, she panicked and started opening doors randomly, which is very stupid thing to do in a dungeon full of vaults containing things known to be hazardous.

The three Dreen seem quite confident of their combat abilities, and in fact of their status in general. And confirmed (not that there was much doubt), these Dreen are the same Dreen we've seen before.

Given that every time we've seen the Dreen before this volume, they were able to terrify just about anything, I don't doubt their abilities.

Noted. I had also added "Heh heh. Ho ho. Hee Hee. Yes." as I think it works better without the context (and I was planning to put it in anyway).

Considering how dangerous Thotep 'a simple vozzler' manages to be, and how the Dreen seem to be similar high-dimensional entities only with a decidedly more 'combat-ready' setup, this seems reasonable.

UNCOUTH MURDER HOBOES as a thread title.

Tarvek's pajamas indicates he's the Prince - the boy l'Roi, French for "the king". I wonder who gets to see them?

And now we learn that Dreen are professional monster hunters who don't care much about collateral damage. I wonder what level and class they are?

Well, that tracks with their habit of going wherever they please, and ignoring the "NPCs" until they have a quest-related demand.

    Duly noted.

In other news, we are at just under 60 titles - the Foglios have been particularly inspiring. I've had to extend the spreadsheet twice this round...

We have an impressive amount of good titles so far.

And no wonder Kjarl is dejected. He has to rely on uncouth murder hoboes to return to his own place. Years of DnD experience say it won't be that easy.

DM to U.M.H: "Your next quest is to escort an NPC named Kjarl to his home in the temporal wilds". U.M.H.: "What do we get if we kill Kjarl and loot him?"

My DMing solution to U.M.H. was that everyone always has someone who cares about them. Even LE barons care about their peasants as a source of tax revenue and fireball fodder. And you never know when a barmaid or merchant has a great-uncle who is a retired 20th level paladin who has been feeling the itch to get the band back together one last time before age makes it impossible.

That is indeed a good method: actions have consequences. And that random guy riding a late bus? He might be the Nobody humming an old Sammy Davis Jr song:

Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong
Whether I find a place in this world or never belong
I gotta be me, I've gotta be me
What else can I be but what I am

I was wondering if the woman seen from the back in panel 2 was Seffie... until I realized this was Tarvek. Guy has long hair in the back...

And does Gil's underwear really to have "MAD" printed all over? We know he's a madboy already...

DM: At the end of the meal, the innkeeper is bringing you the cheese plate. Roll for initiative.
    PC: Excuse me, what?
DM: I said, roll for initiative. They like their cheese really ripe in these parts. They have the ooze type.

"Excuse me, but... is it a GOOD or a BAD thing when the DM can't help bursting into laughter every time he hears the phrase 'level-appropriate encounter'? No, just curious..."

Well... his hat had "Schmott guy" written in big letters, so why not another informative motive on other pieces of clothing?

So am I the only one whose high school french is just barely good enough to be vaguely annoyed by the fact that the rhyme only works if you ignore proper French pronunciation?

(For those who don't know, it would be pronounced more like "rwah" and not "roy").

The English name Leroy derives from Le Roi, but the pronunciation has changed.
