Today is not a recognized holiday and normally they say something - so, modestly worrisome.

So…Where is Girl Genius for 2/5? Funny story. Kaja told me Saturday night that she had to go to the emergency room. There, they told her that her Gall Bladder needed to come out. RIGHT NOW. She is fine. The page will be up soon, and we'll still be in Denver this weekend. Whew.

Hello, all. Here's an update on Kaja: She came back from the hospital on Monday, assured that the pain would "get better". It did not, and late Tuesday, she was re-admitted to the hospital, where she is at the moment. But, she is now feeling slightly better, thanks to many drugs.

I've only just realised this is relevant: last Kickstarter update from Kaja was just before all this. In which she mentioned that they were struggling to keep the lights on.

Yeah, most US people get their insurance through their employers, and the self-employed have to shop on their state "exchange", which is sometimes administered by the state, and sometime by the federal government. Since I think they are in Washington state, the state runs their exchange.

I don't know what their annual income is or how old The Experiments are. Likely, though, they are paying 20% of the cost of all this up to their cap, so they are likely out several thousand dollars.

I've played some of it, but I quickly got fed up with it - it isn't really my kind of game.

It's still the single most successful kickstarter campaign I have ever been involved in, and that was based on the stuff given out before the actual game delivered.

I felt the same. We've seen Kaja comment on how she gets a first look at the page from Phil where there's only sketch art and placeholder dialogue before - I wonder if she also helps with the blocking/scene composition? Her having a lesser role in the latest page could explain it, or maybe Phil didn't put as many passes into the art since he's looking after her.

I thought there was less detail, especially around the eyes?

I was comparing the characters with the previous page and I do not see anything obvious. What is very unusual for Foglio works is the background - as in there is just a solid gray wall all over the page. It is justified as they are entering the massive complex Gil built around the Mechanicsburg, but it definitely feels different from their usual detail-filled backgrounds.

I thought the style looked familliar - it looks like normal GG with a light dusting of Cheyenne's style (Exhibit A). Or perhaps Christopher Baldwin's (Exhibit B)

Maybe some friends are lending a hand while Kaja is ill?

Yeah, telling the Heterodyne and her minions that she has no business being in her own territory- in the very heart of said territory no less -is definitely one of the more interesting natural causes.

Wonder if Gil will swoop in before too much fighting happens. Anyway, someone clearly has no real idea who he is against and where they are. Or is just too dumb to live.

Agatha is letting the latent Heterodyne out. Even Van Mekken is ready to rumble. And Bonesaw definitely looks like he's been here, done that, and is ready to peel the t-shirt off the corpse of some stupid Wulfenbach martinet.

Gil had better arrive soon or he'll be down one minion and two clanks.

Now, that the bearded minion was terrified of letting Agatha into the central lab is also interesting. What's going on that she can't see? Is Gil cloning spare Agathas?

That minion does not even need to know, what is going on in the lab. It is just a matter of being caught between a hammer and an anvil. On one hand, he is in the presence of the Heterodyne - not a person to take lightly or order around. On the other hand, he has very strict orders from the Baron, whom you do not want to cross either. The best he could do was to politely ask Agatha to have some tea and hope Gil shows up soon.

Yeah, Beard Minion is being smart - trying to keep following the Baron's rules, while also trying to keep the Heterodyne happy. It's Bossy Minion who is either being stupid or sorely lacking in self-preservation instinct, and he's about to get a Jaeger lesson is common sense (if Agatha doesn't melt him first)

... and there's a man with a short life expectancy. You'd think that after the previous chapters which ended with the Wulfenbach forces fleeing in disarray (with Zeetha and Axel in tow) the troops might have learned something...
