Subclasses introduced in Adventurers League?
I vaguely remember a cold-themed wizard introduced in an Adventurers League module that caused a stir because it was unbalanced. Does anybody else remember the name and module it appeared in? And are there any other character creation options that were released in Adventurers League material?

Re: Subclasses introduced in Adventurers League?
At a guess you're talking about the Primal Wizard, from a 3rd party supplement for the Icewind Dale adventure/module? The supplement was AL legal...kinda, it looks like the initial marketing overstated the subclasses as being approved for it and they had to change the wording on it after the fact.
The wizard subclass wasn't cold-themed exactly, though the module was.
There was a previous thread about the supplement here: Link
I considered it stronger in general than Bladesinger, so pretty strong as far as subclasses go.
If it's not that? Then I dunno \o/

Yep, that was it. Man, I forgot how many subclasses were given. AL stuff is weird—I didn't even know it could be 3rd party.

Re: Subclasses introduced in Adventurers League?
It usually can't. But a few items produced by those authors with deep AL connections got partial AL approval through special dispensation.
There was a similar release for Tomb of Annihilation that was partly AL legal.Last edited by RogueJK; 2023-06-06 at 10:46 AM.

Were there any character creation options in those?

The Heretic background, and the Entropy Cleric domain.

Re: Subclasses introduced in Adventurers League?
Yeah, those are weird cases because the adventures they're included with are AL legal (and maybe the backgrounds? Who knows at this point) but the subclasses themselves aren't, unless you get a special cert allowing you to play them, which have never to my knowledge been released.
Also, there's a great selection of humorous subclasses in Minsc & Boo's Guide to Stuff and Things, which are also only AL legal with a cert, but it comes with a one-shot adventure that includes pregens using those subclasses.

Re: Subclasses introduced in Adventurers League?
What a strange little corner of the game these are in. Theoretically AL legal, non-WotC content.
