    Hyra's spell causes the paladin's sword to heat in his hands, while Moradin's hammer hits him in the shoulder (26, 8). Jessica's spirits surround her, but her weapon fails to get past the old warrior's defenses.
    Lanius summons a Rope Trick and climbs inside to get away.
    Merry fires a spell at the paladin, then retreats inside the Rope Trick. A cloud of dust floats off the old man as some of his flesh vanishes.

    A week ago, the wizard appeared, blasted half the army out of existence, and demanded that the nation submit. You have been chosen to answer his challenge.

    He awaits atop a small mountain near the city as you approach. There are no trees, and no cover for any except perhaps Lanius to hide within. He is 700' away, there appear to be several of him (mirror image), and something glowing floats about his brow, while a shield of flames circles his position. The wizard is also sitting atop a broom, some 30' above ground level.

    Merry teleports Jessica above the wizard, and falls to the ground. Jessica grabs onto him as he rides the broom.
    Hyra runs closer and summons a new celestial, healing Lanius.

    He effortlessly slips out of Jessica's grasp (Freedom of Movement), causing her to fall to the ground (2d6)[10] falling damage. He then casts a spell at her, which Merry Counterspells (Counterspelled: Mind Whip). He flies 25' further up and away, firing a mote of radiant energy at Merry.

    Lanius gets up and sneaks closer.

    Hyra's Celestial fires two arrows which hit the wizard. He appears quite shocked to have actually been injured. One of the spells Merry broke must have been protecting him...

    He retaliates with an unusually powerful fireball at Merry and Jessica, which Merry Counterspells, followed by a radiant mote, and floats 30' higher into the air.
