One of the many reasons Rocky is among my favorite movies is Apollo Creed. He wasn't a villain, and I'd hesitate to even call him an antagonist. And Carl Weathers understood what the role required and played it perfectly.

This hit me with a level of gutpunch that I didn't expect. Usually a celeb death, even one I really like, is an intellectual well that sucks, sympathies to their families, hope the passing wasn't rough, etc.

Learning we'd lost Carl Weathers though really rocked me when I learned about it last night. Never seen any of the Rocky films, so this reaction must be purely down to seeing Predator at a formative age, and how much fun he appeared to be having recently doing his best Lando while enthusiastically saying Mando.

Apparently it was his idea to play himself as incredibly cheap on Arrested Development.
