With the high life and prime runner rules, you can choose priorities AABCC instead of ABCDE. So I think you can get more stuff build into your character. I was thinking about an Orc gilette with bow and axe and with this system I can actually get beta grade cyber.

She was built entire with karmagen rules, not priorities. So I think she is where I want her to be. Minus tinkering.

putting together all the of the anthroform drones that Gepetto is going to be using. Most of them are to stay home and run specific tasks but will have a medic and a combat one that will come in the van.

I was originally going to say Feb 29th, but then the forums started falling over again. So...honestly, 'when the forums start working consistently' would be my ideal response, but in the absence of any idea when that might be, let's say Friday 22nd March. A bit longer than I'd like a recruitment to go on for, but I've got a bunch of IRL stuff happening as well before then so there's not much point me starting a game and then not really being able to consistently post for it for a week.

    Spoiler: Background
    Show

Laura was born as second daughter of a Lone Star homicide investigator and a supermarket worker. While there wasn’t much room for luxuries, they still lived a comfortable life and their parents, even though they were working hard, tried to spent some quality time with their children. Her childhood was quite idyllic until she turned 13. During a fight on the school yard she was involved in she suddenly dropped one of the others. The investigation after the event indicated that she was awakened as a mage. She was put in a special program for mages in highschool and wanted to go to university. But this was too expensive. So Lone Star stepped in and paid for the courses in exchange for her coming to work for them after graduating. She had no real problem with that, as she had always been intrigued by her father’s stories about investigations.

After getting her bachelor she went to the Lone Star Police Academy, where she was trained as a forensic specialist, although she did get the general courses as well. After graduating she was placed in the homicide division in Bismarck, on the Frontier with the Sioux nation. It was a small city, but it being on the border meant a lot of smuggling and other assorted crimes taking place. It didn’t take long for her to see her first body. That first case was pretty straight forward and the forensic evidence was only to support the confession they had gotten.

In the following years she gained a reputation as a good specialist who could find out very much with very few clues. Her magical potential also continued to grow and she added spells to her repertoire that helped her finding clues, but due to the shortage of mages she would also due other things, like help with interrogations and even some tactical spells, like find life, so she could tell SWAT teams where the bad guys were. She wouldn’t be in the room itself, but she would be behind the mirror with a spell that would tell her where the suspect was lying. She would then compare notes with the interrogator later. The only thing that sometimes posed problems was that technology which worked quite well for others tended not to do so for her. During this period she also learned the language of the Sioux and some Or’Zet, as a lot of smuggling groups had a large percentage of Orcs.

Life was good there, although boring at times (even with the border close by, it was still a small town). She had been gambling a bit for quite some time, mostly card games at the Academy, but now she started gambling more. While she did make sure not to go in debt with the guys running things, it was difficult at times and she did crack down on the competitors of one of them in exchange for clearing out one debt.

During the Superbowl in 2075 in Cincinnati (she was on the force for a bit more than 3 years), a city where Lone Star provided security, there were placed some threats to it and therefore they had put all resources on high alert. Rachel was also part of this and she transferred to Cincinnati for the duration of the events. Her father, now a lieutenant, was also transferred to help out and while it was policy to not place family members together, two days before the event there was an attack on one of the teams (the Washington Chieftains) and Lone Star deployed in force. Her father was in charge of the first group to arrive and Laura was also there, being in the vicinity.

Quickly they had everything contained and were ready to go in. Laura had done an astral recon, had a spirit ready and had her detect life spell on to give her father all the assistance he needed. But during the attack things went wrong. The opposition was much stronger than they had foreseen and they had heavy weapons and almost milspec armour. The first reaction team wasn’t ready for that and a lot of them were killed, including her father. Laura had followed the team and saw her father being killed. She went berserk and ordered her spirit to attack, while she also started shooting.

They weren’t ready for a spirit and she killed the left-over criminals. Unfortunately for her, the gap between the first group and her moving in, two of them had fired on the team, killing two and wounding three more. The publicity wasn’t good and Lone Star lost the Cincinnati contract. So they needed a scapegoat and the team that attacked without waiting for SWAT was a logical choice and she was kicked out of the force.

Lucky for her mages were still wanted just about everywhere and she got a job in a smaller private security company, first in Denver then in DC (where she got in touch again with her old teacher who was part of Lone Star Forensics). Her job was putting wards on buildings (or parts thereof) and then monitoring these from a central command center. If the ward was breached or if the local security team called in, she had to go there via the astral and report back or summon a spirit to get the job done. These were boring nights and soon she started gambling again and soon she was a lot in debt with the local maffia.

Even a call to Diego couldn’t help and in order for her to clear her debt, she was ‘requested’ to remove the ward on a certain warehouse and not react to any requests for help. She was torn between her feeling as a law enforcement officer (which she still thought she was, even if it was in another company now) and the fact that she had a big debt to pay off. In the end she did as they asked and some important items ‘walked’ out of the warehouse. She wasn’t found out the first time, but the second time she had to do this, the company did connect the dots and she was fired again. The only reason she didn’t gain a criminal SIN for her troubles was that they couldn’t prove anything and the company also didn’t want the negative publicity.

This time she didn’t manage to find another job and after her savings (what little of it she had) had run out, she had to turn to becoming what she had always hated, a criminal. This didn’t sit well with her, but it was either that or starve. Her first jobs were as a freelancer, helping out teams who didn’t have a mage or needed some specific spells and also as clean-up after runs went south. Her forensics training helped a lot in those jobs. She refused to do wetwork and will only kill in self-defence. She did move back to the Hollows where she had lived as a child and where her mother still lived.

So the goal of Geppetto is ultimately to be in the trunk of the van while his Anthroform drone goes in wearing suits and wielding a XMK modular weapon.

Will be running a machine sprite through the drone. Overall the design very human.

But if you'd rather my character was always around in person, I can build an entirely different technomancer.

    Liam Sykes AKA Huscarl

There aren’t many who understand the Hollows like I do. Sure, there are plenty of others who grew up there. Even a few who run the shadows. But I know the true spirits of the place, and how they were shaped by the people. I think it’s fair to say I was shaped in the same way.

Dad was some go-ganger who never cared enough to settle down. Mom was a druid who fled the EuroWars, and was always haunted by them. She cared, and she tried her best, but she had far too many bad days to parent on her own. So the community stepped up to help. One of my teachers, Mrs Hayes, nurtured my inquisitive mind and kept me in school. Maeda-Sensei, a local jujitsu coach, taught me the value of discipline and respect. Various neighbours kept me clothed and fed when money was tight. So many acts of kindness, too rare in the sixth world, made my childhood far better than it had any right to be.

Of course, I didn’t stay there forever. I had talent and ambition. More importantly, I was an idealist back then. I genuinely believed that the national government served the public good, when the corps only cared about the bottom line. So, as a young adult, I found my way into the Secret Service. My speed and awareness made me good at executive protection, and my proactive approach helped foil plots before they were fully realised. I served with distinction for a number of years, and transformed into the cynic you see today. Turns out, you can never trust a politician.

I witnessed a lot of corrupt backroom deals, and I saw political capital traded like Nuyen. Eventually my principle walked away from the wrong deal, and days later they were geeked at a public engagement. The subsequent inquest cost my job, and left me blacklisted on both sides of the corporate-government divide. Given my experience, and my sudden need for work, it seemed natural that I turn to the shadows.

I’ve survived long enough now to earn a reputation for professionalism, and pull major jobs on three continents. But now it’s time to return home. I just got a message from Maeda, asking for help. The details are vague, but apparently there’s a threat to the entirety of the Hollows. After everything that community has done for me, I need to repay the favour.

Well, this should be the time I'm picking characters...but the person who requested this game hasn't actually finished theirs. So...I guess I'll give it another twenty-four hours, and if they're still not done then I'll just go ahead without them.

There hadn't been any update since march 4th, I was actually starting to get afraid the game had been abandoned.

Edit: Another question I have, can i pick up a RESONANT STREAM from killcode page 89. Specifically for me I'm looking at the machinist. The book says not at normal character creation.

As far as I can see there's nothing saying you can't take a stream at chargen (which makes sense, since they're basically the technomancer version of Ways and you can take those at chargen), so feel free.

That said, the forums going unstable again like this - for me, they've been down for the past six hours or so, which if it wasn't a weekend would be basically the entire span of time I would normally have to post - is getting a little grating. Since it's the weekend it's probably fair to wait a couple days since Rawhide et al have lives too, but if the forums continue being this unstable into next week I'm just going to call off the game, sorry.

I personally have no objection to doing that, but I don't know if everyone here has MW accounts (and likes MW's new interface and such, I know a fair few people have quit MW because of the switch.) If people are okay with MW then sure, we can do that.

This is about the fifth time I've tried to post this, let's see if it goes through this time...

Owing to the glitchiness of the forums meaning that the game will probably be moving off-site, with all the teething troubles associated with doing so, I've decided to take a smaller number of players than I normally would. As such, my three selected players are as follows:

    farothel with Snoop
    Lentrax with Selene
    Lord of Gifts with Huscarl

Thank you all for applying and bearing with the delays.
