    Default Creating true darkness

Is there a way to create complete darkness in D&D?
Not like the "shadowy illumination" that Darkness spells produce, but full on 50% you cant see anything darkness?

I believe the spell Blacklight (SpC) fits the bill.

The no light cantrip, from the BoVD.

The caster creates an area of darkness. Normal light sources cannot illuminate the area, but darkvision allows a creature to see within the area. Light counters no light (and vice versa), leaving whatever light conditions normally prevail in the overlapping areas of the spells. Higher-level light spells counter and dispel no light.

Magic of Incarnum has the Shadow Mantle soulmeld, which if bound to the shoulders chakra creates a modestly-sized sphere of magical darkness (plus blindsight that extends to its limit). It's seemingly meant to be actual total-concealment darkness, as the ability says "you are completely aware of all creatures within the radius of darkness, but you are invisible to them unless they have some way of piercing magical darkness."

9th-level totemists are the simplest way to get this bind, but it's also possible to do entirely with feats.

The control light power, from the XPH.

One could also use a solid black illusion and hope everyone fails their saves.

With the proper setup, prestidigitation. If someone is wearing spectacles or goggles, or they're looking through a telescope or periscope, just change the color of the lenses from clear to an opaque color of your choice. Also, windows.

before the update to 3.5 the "darkness" spell did that. it worked exactly like the light spell only it created magical darkness that even darkvision couldnt see in.

The usual options have already been mentioned. I second Blacklight.

    A few additional options are:

Control Darkness (CoR), which let's you boost magical darkness up to complete darkness rather than just shadowy illumination

Creeping Darkness (CA) short lived total darkness + silence movable AOE
    I am rel.

No light is basically identical but 3 spell levels sooner.

The spell Assassin's Darkness from Complete Scoundrel gives absolute darkness while giving you the ability to see through it yourself. Though, getting an assassin only 4th level spell can be pretty difficult.

Use the ring of the darkhidden (invisible to darkvision) and no light for a really cheap ring of invisibility.

True, but it's a 3.0 spell which works by 3.0 darkness rules, a lot of DMs will update it to work like 3.5 darkness.
