    Post Archery build 3.5

Im in a group with a bard focused on buffing attack damage, the most eficient way to use these buffs is to attack multiple times, and they need a ranged combatent.
So i'm thinking about a variant fighter focused on archery, however i dont have much knowlege on how to build such character. any sugestions on feats, prestige classes, etc?

What level are you starting at, and what level do you reasonably expect to reach? Are you able to use flaws to get two extra feats?

The absolute best archer is someone who can Persistent Draconic Polymorph into an Arrow Demon. That's a 5th level spell, an Arrow Demon is 10 HD, so that's a minimum level 10 with Incantatrix or Spelldancer or some other means to apply persistent spell without increasing the spell slot. Any elf can take Otherworldly to be an outsider and be able to polymorh into other outsider forms. A Cleric with the Spell domain can accomplish this with Greater Anyspell, which requires 11th level. A Bard 8/ Something 1/ Spelldancer 1/ Sublime Chord 1 could even do it, if you make a Forestlord Elf and take Dragonfire Inspiration (and dip Dragonblood Sorcerer 1 to change the damage type) then both your characters can buff everyone's damage at the same time.

A really cool TWF archer that works from 6th level is the Soulbow from Complete Psionics. Something like Swordsage 1/ Soulknife 2/ Swordsage 2/ Soulbow 1+ in that order, grabbing a few more Swordsage levels later on at the right levels to get specific maneuvers/stances. Make it a Thri-Kreen instead, especially if you can buy off the LA, and take Multiweapon Fighting if you want even more pew-pew. In that case you'll have two racial HD, so only one Swordsage level before taking Soulbow, but you want Swordsage 2 for the AC bonus. Take Zen Archery if your Wis is higher than your Dex, since the mind arrows add Wis to damage and you'll be adding that to your AC it's your most important stat. At Soulbow 2 you can put Lucky on each mind arrow, so each one (i.e. every shot you make) gets a 1/day chance to reroll a missed attack roll.

To help you further, it would be helpful to know what level range you expect to play at. Given you're getting magical buffs elsewhere, and you want to do a lot of attacks, I'm going to presume you want a mundane volley archer.

My suggestions: Ranger + Champion of the Wild ACF. Ranger has several free feats, Champion of the Wild has a few more. You want a bunch of feats to make archery work, so that's helpful. 6 + INT is a good amount of skill points for a mundane, and a d10 is a decent-sized hit dice.

Weapon: Composite Longbow. This lets you add STR to archery damage, and can add up to quite a bit extra depending on racial choices and/or templates.

    Races:
    • Anything with a good STR or DEX bonus. Depending on your source material and level of cheese allowed, spending an LA for a good STR bonus can be worth the loss of one BAB and a level.
    • Anything with Endurance as a bonus feat will get another free feat at level 3, so stuff like Frostblood Orc can be a good choice.
    • Four limbs (or more) can mean you double your attacks by wielding two bows at once. Very much an "ask your DM" thing, though.

    Feats:
Rapid Shot, Manyshot, Improved Precise Shot - you get these for being a Ranger for free. You also don't need the prereq feats for them. Neat. Remember that Rapid Shot and Manyshot don't combo, but at least it gives you options if you have a full-round action to attack versus only a standard action.
Improved Rapid Shot (COTW feat) - you're using Rapid Shot, this removes the -2 penalty on all your rolls.
Point-Blank Shot (COTW feat) - largely a feat tax to get many good Archery feats, but you can use Champion of the Wild to pick it up for free
Precise Shot (COTW feat) - if you want to shoot people engaged in melee, this will help that
Improved Favored Enemy (COTW feat) - there are some wide-ranging Favored Enemy options, like Favored Enemy (Arcane) and Favored Enemy (Evil). This will let you do even more damage to those enemies
Woodland Archer - you're making a bunch of attack rolls, and this gives you a bonus that increases every time you miss. You'll want this at level 6.

Steadfast Determination - Will is a weak point, you get the prereq feat Endurance as a bonus feat. This feat lets you key your Will save off CON and dump WIS.
Education + Knowledge Devotion - you get a bonus on attack and damage rolls, and you want a lot of those, and you have a lot of skill points to throw about. Not a bad option for a Ranger.

If you can slip a level of Barbarian into your build, Whirling Frenzy will give you an extra attack at -2 to your attack rolls that turn. Bonus points if the Extra Rage feat can instead give you more uses of Whirling Frenzy each day.

Hopefully this is useful to you. If it isn't, I can come up with other options.

One of the major annoyances for archery is that you need Dex for attack rolls and Str for damage rolls. One way to circumvent this is to use the Targeteer variant for Fighter (Dragon 310, p38). Another major annoyance is that there’s no easily accessible equivalent of Power Attack for archery. The only option I’m aware of is the Power Shot ability of the Peerless Archer prestige class (Silver Marches, p115).

If you’re willing to entertain approaches to ranged damage other than archery, the Bloodstorm Blade prestige class (Tome of Battle, p100) can make a very competent ranged combatant.

There's also Hank's Bow which is WotC printed if a bit funky.

The Archery Handbook will go into depth better than we ever could here so you should take a look.
