Yeah. "You can have a variety of different vampire stories" doesn't mean "you can take a man who got irradiated and now gets huge and strong when he gets angry and call him a vampire", as a quick example. Again, nobody suggested you trot out entirely different creatures in every respect except mild superficial anesthetics and still call them vampires, which was what you tried to illustrate. Meta was saying you could have vampires who are different from Dracula and are not called Dracula and that would be interesting because they wouldn't be implicitly tying themselves to the source material and then having to invent new ways around the source material, which more easily allows for new and interesting takes.

Black Court are more nosferatu than Dracula. Red Court are "modern" Dracula (veneer of nobility over a savage bat-like form) but not quite classic Dracula.

Yeah, that's fair. In any case, the point was just that it can work quite well to have dramatically different types of vampire all using the term, similar to koala bears not being bears or bell peppers not being pepper, etc.

I know, I thought it'd be funny to play off how it sounds like Mike (I initially had the Matt name with only one T, to duplicate the "object which sounds like a name" feel before going to the name which sounds nothing like any object, and in retrospect still think it would have been the better choice, but that's just me going over hyper-specifics on how I think a joke can play best).

Me: *Asks my mom to pick up some hummus again the next time she finds some for a reasonable price.*
Mom, a few days later: *Tells me she ordered some hummus cups with snack crackers.*
Today, it gets here... And it's specifically Red Pepper hummus. She knows full well I don't like peppers. And she defends herself by saying "That's what they had" and insists that I just try it but... I can see the pieces of peppers in the hummus.

I don't know if she didn't notice that it was red pepper or if she ordered it despite being red pepper expecting me to eat it anyway or if she ordered something else and Wal-Mart substituted the red pepper kind instead or what and I'm not going to ask because that'll just lead to a fight but...

It's not too much to ask that when I contribute about a fourth of the grocery budget out of my own pocket that the person who buys the food remembers my preferences right? Especially since typically when I don't like something it's because the smell, flavor, or texture actively makes me sick.

(And with most peppers, it's all three)

Also, the spring-loaded stabby thingy from my diabetes test kit stopped springing and we had to spend an hour trying to figure out where my Mom kept her spares so I could actually test my blood sugar so... yeah, that's how my morning is going.

Scotland is the cold wet part, and England is the less cold wet part, right?

And Wales is the cold, wetter part.

Regarding people returning from the dead in Marvel comics....

It's been decades since I regularly read comics (although I catch the occasional story every once in a while). But if I remember, in most cases it wasn't someone literally returning from the dead. It was a retcon so they never actually died in the first place. Jean Grey: In an energy bubble under water. Spider-man: Went into a cocoon. Dr. Doom: Either body hopped or it was a Doombot. And so on.

Regarding Dracula and Dresden Files, Dracula is specifically called out as Black Court. it's commented on at least twice that Stoker published the book to specifically get out the information about how to kill Black Court vampires.
