Well my characters generally get ride of stuff by taking ranks in ride and buying a mount.

Oh, and for getting rid of stuff, Sphere of Annihilation is fun.

I think the standards methods are:
1. Sell it.
2. If 1 doesn't work, use it as a spell component.
3. If 2 doesn't work, eat it.
4. If 3 doesn't work, burn it.
5. If 4 doesn't work, run away. You are clearly dealing with something much more powerful than you are.

Yank a disc of stone out of the ground to use as a telekinetically levitated base for a Wall of Stone, which will drop because it exceeds the weight limit for telekinesis. Rock falls, whatever the problem was dies.

you've probably got a cursed returning item if you feel the need to ask. have a powerful cleric cast remove curse, or wish it gone if you can. then if you see anything that vaugely resembles it, nuke it from orbit, its the only way to be sure.
