Default Help With My First Character!

Hey I will be starting my first game of DnD in about 5 days and I have
want to be ready with some choices for my first level 1 character. There are two classes
I have in mind. Wizard and Druid. If its possible I would like to have a some suggestions for both characters. If you could please keep feats and info to players handbook please i am still learning

    Wizard
    The wizards stats are 8, 17, 15, 18, 13, 13
The wizard's fluff is kinda like a elven prodigy he is really young and has been taught by his uncle a Iron Mage of Conjuration.( ) I would like him to be specilized as conjuration, but i really dont want to give up illusion or enchantment. Illusion becouse i wont be able to cast shadow evocation for the standared fireball and lightning bolt. And enchantment because controlling people is just crazy cool! I dont really know about necromany because i have heard it is pretty important like finger of death and my char is Chaotic Neutral is going to go with the over used
obseced with magic and dosnt really care about lables as evil(If i had to give it up what would I dont think i would cry over it). But ya I think that is for the wizard and suggestions for gear would be a big help. Also i am having trouble finding a way to keep track of spells. I was thinking of just putting spells into a word doc as i learn them and print them off and have dividers for level. Take out the spells i have prepared for the day and just tick them off when used.

P.S What is a good familar to get?

    Druid
    13, 16, 11, 17, 18, 6 are the stats

The Druid is something I would like to play as well. I havent thought about the druid as much as the wizard but it would be somethin like this.
The Druid would be either Hafling, elf or human. Not really sure just the ideas for either one could be cool. I like the idea of shapeshifting into a hawk and hitting opponents with lightning from above or a little hafling turning into a great Dire Bear. I dont really want to be healing much be cause we would have another druid that I think is covering that. I dont want to be the party tank we have a barbarian for that. I want to cast spells and shapeshift that kinda summs it up.

I would post this in ceate a charecter thread but is kinda of deteriorated and hard to navagate.
I hope this is enough information for you
Thank you in advance for the help and advice!

    Your Wizard:

I would give up the Familair if you can, there are a plethara of neat abilities you can get instead, If you have acess to PHB II then go for the Immediate Magic..

If you have Access to Complete Mage, Then Master Specialist, then Archmage, then if your still playing, More Conjurer. It'll look neato. And you don't loose out on any casting.

As for Loss, I'd say Illusion, as you get Evocation, and that covers your Fireballs and Lightning bolts and whatnot. In addion I'd say Let Necromancy Die. (pun intended) I'ts not all that good, Enchantment will give you some kill spells. and Conjuration will have you creating 10 ton anvils over peaple's heads..tis fun.

    Your Druid:

    Animal companian: Wolf.
Enjoy...you'll be suprised how much fun a Divine Caster is. (change your Compainion into a T-Rex asap...chomp chomp)

Well, you say the party healer and meat shield positions are taken, so another druid might be a little much. Not exactly a fifth wheel, but each of the classes roles are already filled.

    So, Wizard.

Go for Grey Elf (Monster Manual) as your race. Lose some Strength, but you don't need it anyway. The Int and Dex boosts are very valuable for a wizard. Definitely give up evocation if you want to specialize. Direct damage spells are subpar, and conjuration gives better damage spells than evocation. Enchantment is very good, but you can summon hulking otherworldy creatures (or at least little animals) to do your bidding for you. It might hurt to lose it, but you can. Don't use a Word doc. It may be organized, but it can't really be altered (spells from leveling up? Reading another's spellbook in an adventure?). Even though there are pretty much NO conjuration spells with saves, go with Spell Focus (Conjuration). It leads to Augment Summoning, which you CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT. Never go anywhere without scrolls. You get the feat for free, and they can widen you spell options. They're also cheaper to make yourself. Is this game at lvl 1? I could be of more help if I knew.

Two problems with this statement: Glitterdust, Grease, Web and Stinking Cloud are all central spells for the low-level Wizard. Each is Conjuration and each requires a saving throw. And while Augment Summoning isn't bad, it's by no means a necessity.

And, of course, as a Wizard you can usually grab Augment Summoning for a single feat with an Unearthed Arcana variant. Also, look at the Rapid Summoning variant if you're using a wizard Summoner with access to UA.

And here's a link to a guide which has been updated within the past year. It's not as fun of a read, though.

[edit:]If you're new to D&D, the d20srd.org links probably don't look too legitimate. Those are content from Wizards of the Coast books which WotC has decided to release openly. The two links I gave are actually printed in this book, if it's available.

I'd suggest a Human Druid with a Animal Companion because you can always multiclass into wizard and PRC into Arcane Heriophant if the campaign lasts that long as you become more familiar with the spellcasting rules and mechanics.

At first level Toughness gets your PC +3 Hit Points and Improved Initiative helps him go first.

Consider taking "Natural Spell" at level 6 unless you are planning to take Mobility at that level for some reason which will require taking the Dodge feat at an earlier level.

If you will playing this PC for a while Spell Focus Conjuration and Augment Summoning could be nice (but you can pick up those 2 feats at second level by taking a level in Conjurer and using one of the SRD variants if you will be multiclassing the PC).

If you plan to play this PC for a while Arcane Heriophant could be nice especially if you use some of the Conjuring variants in the SRD.

Of course if there is a non PRC you are interested buying the prerequistie feats should be taken into consideration leveling.

If you're going to be a specialist wizard always do divination. Why? You only have to ban one school. The extra spell will be the one divination spell you probably prepare. Then just take spell focus in whatever school you really wanted.

What about going wizard with spell focus either conjuration or illusion (it really sucks when they make their save vs things liek phantasmal killer).

And maybe ban abjuration and perhaps transmutation. Makes for a more interesting adventure as you have to think your way out of problems instead of just dispelling or changing it.

    EDIT:
If you want your spell list (and the rest of your sheet) simplified check out theonlysheet.com. It is an excel spreadsheet with a whole crapload of macros to calculate your entire character, detects errors, gives spell descriptions.....its nice
