    Default Barbarians and fast movement

question about this, because it's not making sense

a barb get +10 movement speed in Light/Medium armor

but it says on the srd it says:

A barbarian’s land speed is faster than the norm for his race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the barbarian’s speed because of any load carried or armor worn.

isnt't that kind of defeating the purpose? i mean seriously, it really handicaps barbs if they're stuck with 20 ft movement in medium armor, just like everyone else.

anyone know of any errata that overrules or clarifies this?

edit: if they're going to penalize you for being in medium armor, then just limit it to no armor/light armor...

    stupid wotc editors :P

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

    Nope, that works fine.

A human barbarian would have 40' base land speed. Wearing medium armour, it drops to 30'.

A character with 40ft movement speed does not move 20ft in Medium armor "like everyone else". 40ft move -> 30ft in armor.

They do that so that a gnome or halfling barbarian doesn't have a move of 25' in medium armor. I guess that would be a bad thing or something.

And don't forget the all important Mithril armors, which are treated as one category lighter for purposes of movement. So that barbarian in full plate still moves at 30' per round, but in his mithril breast plate goes back up to 40' per round.
