Wizard Prestige Classes

Hi, I have read Logic Ninja's guide, so please don't tell me that I should ban evocation for anything, I would really like to be a Races of the Wild Elven Generalist.

My issue, is what kind of prestige classes are even worth looking into. I would like one that has simple benefits, or the ability to grab a few metamagic feats.

Anything would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I nominate incantatrix, from some faerun sourcebook, can't remember which.

That's all I've got for a generalist, most wizard PRC's are for specialists of some sort.

Cheesy is fine, my DM is not allowing us to take spot checks unless he calls for them. He just goes, oh and your ambused. So cheesy works.

Also, we are level 7 now, so stuff we can use around there would be great thx.

Anything with a full caster progression.

Wizard 7/Loremaster 10/Archmage 3 is classic, core, and powerful. Loremaster has minor benefits that add up, plus unexpected synergy: for example, use True Lore to qualify for Imprisonment's potential -4 saving throw penalty (and use Archmage's Arcane Reach to make the spell a ranged touch attack).

A level or two of Geometer has minor benefits (in return for a minor skill point investment), and is stylish when coupled with Complete Arcane's Tattooed Spellbook option.

Fatespinner is good through level 4.

If you want cheesy, Incantatrix (PGtF) definitely qualifies. So does Initiate of the Sevenfold CheeseVeil, although that doesn't kick in until later.

-You get free metamagic! with Spellcraft checks. There's one ability for your allies' spells as they cast, and one for your own already-cast spells (Extend, for example... or, oh, Persistent Spell). Then there's even *more* free metamagic in the form of Instant Metamagic, once and then twice per day. And finally, you get all metamagic costs reduced by -1 spell level to a minimum of 1, at level 10. +1-spell-level Empower or Split Ray? Wow.

Mage of the Arcane Order is decidedly a non-cheesy, quality alternative to taking levels in wizard. Bonus spells known, access to the Spellpool, bonus languages, and bonus feats. The worst entry cost, IMO, is cooperative metamagic.

It certainly isn't the best out there for a wizard, but I've always been rather fond of the alienist. Full casting, bonus metamagic feats, a few class features. You lose nothing but your sanity.

Incantatrix 10 is good, but it's rare you can find a level 15 game to lay in. I recommend Fatespinner. Easy entry requirements (prof gambler? lol), and four levels of it net you +4 caster levels and the ability to pump the DC on your spells (1 fate point/level). Also, rerolling.

As others have said, anything with full caster progression works fine.

I'd also add War Weaver from Heroes of Battle to the list. Although it lacks full caster progression, it lets you to cast spells and have them effect everyone in your party. For example, I cast Enlarge Person, and it effects everyone.

If you aren't impressed by three bonus metamagic feats, immunity to death effects and energy drain, improved metamagic, and a whole bunch of other stuff, I really don't know of any prestige classes that will impress you.

Yeah, I'm guessing that you were reading the weak version (3.0?) of Incantrix.

If you do go Loremaster, don't forget to notice the Use Magic Device class skill. A lot less useful for a Wizard than for some other classes, but still nice.

With a level 7 elven generalist wizard something nice and simple:

Consider taking the Arcane Disciple feat Summoning Domain which will allow the PC to take Thaumaturgist - 3, Loremaster -3, ACM -5 +2 to taste.

The nice thing about the Summoning domain is with a decent Wisdom of wisdom enhancing item the PC can cast Lesser Planar Ally at L7+ 1/day which means a Movanic Deva which can Raise the Dead, Commun + other specials for 100 xp + 100 gp a level.

Lots of synergy with Thaumaturgist which enhances summoning and fulfills PRC requirements for Loremaster and ACM granting the PC lots of specials.

It depends on your DM but the Elven Generalist is basically a variant "Specialist" wizard so Ultimate Magus with Beguiler -1 at first level would be great if your DM will let you retro fit the PC.

No. The PGtF version is the second one, and you will give it the Ring freely! And it shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! … All shall love it and despair!

If you happen to be a Changling, the Recaster from Races of Eberron gives a lot of free metamagic use, spell versatility, and other benefits, for one spellcasting level and very easy prerequisites.

The Master Specialist from Complete Mage is nice for about 3 levels of dip, especially since it makes qualifying for Archmage much easier (and also has incredibly easy prerequisites).

My favorite (cheesy) Wizard build is Wizard 3/Master Specialist 10/IotSV 7.

Specialized in Abjuration, naturally.

Trade 3 levels of MS for Archmage and you get a lot more. Though the ability to trap an enemy inside a Prismatic Sphere is fairly nice, I think some of the High Arcana is better.

It's the abjuration-spells-as-touch-spells that really makes Master Abjurer.

Unfortuneately there is no official Elven "Generalist" Master Specialist PRC.
