Initiate of sevenhold veil question

Ok, the class sure have a powerful ability, but what makes it so insanely broken about it. Sure is nice to use that purple veil at the end of the game session when confronting the mini-boss, but I don't know how it can be THAT broken.

Well, it's abilities effectively prevent you from ever dieing, while providing a couple other minor abilities, a pretty nice capstone(dispel magic+make target suffer veil effects=boss killer), and increase your caster level. Thus Really Great Abilities+ no real cost= overpowered. For extra gouda, start with Master specialist(abjuration) and finish with a couple levels of Archmage.

I'm going Wis and wanted to take it + Archmage, how I balance the class choices?

It's not the class that's unbalanced, but how you use it.

I know, really cliche, but in this case its true. If you want to seem less powerful than you could be, just focus more on buffing the party than save or suck/die. Keep a couple save or sucks in reserve if things start looking bad, but mainly play a utility role. Good examples of spells to use would be haste and slow. I'm sure someone else can help to give a couple more examples, likely Solo. He's had more experince with this.

Oh, look in the playing batman thread, as one person mentioned playing a wizard like this.

No, I mean, how I chose the class progression in a reasonable way. Wis X/IosV 7/Arch Y?

Take several levels of Monk.

Wiz3/MS7/IotSV2/AM2/IotSV6

Get the high arcana that allow touch spells as a distance of 30' and the master of shaping one.

Well, taking the 5th level of wizard really depends on whether or not you want to get the Spontanious Divination ACF from Complete Champion. Its really good, possibly the best thing since Leap Attack. Never having to mem a divination spell again, yet having ALL divination spells (regardless of origin!) at your fingertips is almost too good to pass up...

Abj5/MS5/Io7V4/AM2/Io7V3/AM1 is about the best you can get with Spontaneous Div.

If you didn't want that, something like:
Abj3/MS10/Io7V7 is pretty good. The ability to cast spells like AMF on an ally rather than yourself is amazing. Doesn't really need AM levels.
