A Test of Optimization: The Wall
The Rules, as they Arrive in to my Head:
1. 10th level, or 20th level builds, standard wealth. Designate which you plan to go for.
2. No Pun-Pun, Candle of Invocation Cheese, or any other method used to obtain ridiculous stats. Optimization should not break the game.
3. A single flaw may be taken.
The Challenge:
Create a PC with the largest HP, AC, and Saves you can possibly manage. This PC should be a potent blocker of attacks, spells, and the occasional spiked pit trap. Abilities such as Evasion and Mettle are useful, but maybe you'll find something better.
Have fun!"So Marbles, why do they call you Marbles?"

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
Wow. At first glance Monk seems to have a fighting chance at this one! :)

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
Is the object to block for others(drawing enemies' fire), or just to make some one who could be ignored completely, but if he is ever targeted he will likely survive?

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
Dwarf Knight/Dwarven Defender would be the obvious choice, 'cause I don't have ToB for Crusader...
BImportant note: I'll be away from the Internet for two weeks. Apologies to anyone this causes a problem for.
Thanks to xiolin_monk (AKA Maestro) for the Wolf Priest avvy.

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
If you have the ToB, Cursader/Deepstone sentinel might work. In fact, knight/deepstone sentinel might work too, depending on feet requirements.

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
A pixie monk/fighter/duelist can have an AC around 100, but with standard wealth it will be much lower (but still unable to hit on anything but a natural 20). It's also invisible. I'm not sure if this counts as uber high stats, because it has three extremely high as opposed to one impossibly high.

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
Something like this. It's not much of a monk though, more like a cleric/fighter.

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
if you kill whatever is attacking you or disable the trap before it hurts you, does that count as blocking it?

Re: A Test of Optimization: The Wall
High AC and saves, low-ish HP:
LA2/Gloura7/Hexblade3/Paladin of Tyranny2/Blackguard2/Swordsage2/Arcane Duelist 2
What you get:
Charisma to AC x 3
(From gloura, swordsage with the ascetic mage feat, and arcane duelist). All this counts as AC vs. touch attacks.
Charisma to saves x3 or x4 vs spells and spell like abilities.
Say you start with dex 14 and charisma 16 (need 13 str for power attack and good con),
At level 20, dex = 34
14 (base) + 10 (gloura) +6 (item) + 4(tome)
cha= 38
16 (base) + 6 (gloura) +6 (item) +5 (tome) +5 (levels)
Touch AC = 64
10 (base) + 12 (dex) + 14 (charisma from gloura) +14 (charisma from swordsage) + 14 (charisma from arcane duelist)
With more items, you can get AC up to the mid 80s.
Get a ring of evasion, and with mettle, you're pretty much immune to all spells, with +42 or +56 to all saves from your race and class alone (ignoring the bonuses from dex, con, wis, or base).
Alternative build:
Race: Warforged
Warblade 15/Warforged Juggernaught 5.
With Warblade levels, do ToB stuff.
With Juggernaught, you get immunity to a whole host of really nasty stuff, like constructs do. At first level, take the feat Trollblooded (from a Dragon magazine). This gives you regeneration. All damage, besides fire and acid, are treated as nonlethal damage. You're immune to nonlethal damage due to warforged juggernaught 2.
Alternatively, go Artificer 18/Warforged Juggernaught 2. Cast the following spells on yourself: Monstrous Regeneration (Magic of Faerun, level 5 spell), and the two fifth level cleric spells that give you immunity to one element (choose fire and acid). All these spells are persistable, so persist them.
Now you are immune to all damage. Cool!
