Default Changing systems and I need help

hey guys i am changing my game to L5R and i got the book from a friend. I went through the index and could not make heads or tails of any of the stats... i would appreciate it if someone would give me a crash course in GMing a L5r game and teaching others how to play in one.

The basics of the L5R system is XkY... roll X number of dice (d10s, IIRC), and keep (k) Y. If I have a 5k3, I would roll 5d10, but I would only keep the best 3. It increases my odds of getting a good roll, but it doesn't give me all of them.

This is from memory; my ex got that book.

You add your Strength (which is a substat of Water) to non-kept dice for weapon damage.

No offense, but as a GM shouldn't you read the book thoroughly from start to the end? That's usually the best way of learning a new system.
