Default Need Help with character ideas

Here's the deal. I'll be joining a 5th level campaign soon with the following party: a Wilder, Crusader, and Beguiler. The problem is I'm not sure what type of character would benefit such a rag tag bunch of heroes. I have access to nearly any 3rd ed book you'd probably think of, and I'm feeling like playing something of the unusual variety.

    Thanks in advance

A druid benefits pretty much any bunch of ragtag heroes, if you want to play one. You'll probably want some sort of divine caster, anyway.

But what can it do? Psionics are good at blasting, but what is that class good at specifically? After all, a Druid and a Favored Soul are both Divine classes, but they play completely differently.

You have the internet. Use it.

Basically, it's a psion with fewer powers known and some weird abilities.

A wilder is better at blasting at earlier levels than anyone else. It can boost its caster level temporarily with some chance of getting stunned and losing pp. It also has a pitiful number of powers.

Wouldn't a warforged warlock have ASF? That means you're wasting feats to deal with that.

So you have Damage, Lockdown, Skillmonkey, and Battlefield Control. You seem to need healing and buffs. A Cleric or Bard would be fine, though I suggest Bard, with UMD so you can wand Vigor to boost your allies between combats.

Warforged don't suck - on the contrary, they're made of awesome. Warlocks are very weak, especially in a group that the OP has.

Cleric, Druid, or Favored Soul would likely give some nice healing and give another frontliner to help take heat off the Crusader.

Orc Wizard. 22 Str. 14 int. Focused specialist Transmuter. Fist of stone + Enlarge Person. Invisibility and haste to taste. If you really want to have fun...

    Wizard 1 (focused specialist)/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2

2 bonus feats, rage, fast movement, uncanny dodge, and self buffs.

BAB +4 at level 5, With Fist/Enlarge/Rage, you'll be swinging a 34 Str, for a +15 to hit. Whack things.

I agree about a Divine Caster being the best choice here. Does the Crusader have access to any healing abilities? If he doesn't a full Divine Caster may not be as necessary as they would be if the Crusader can't heal themself or their allies at all.

I would also recommend going with a Druid. In your original posting, you said that you have access to nearly any 3rd ed book. If you want (and the DM allows it) try going with the Shifter PrC from Masters of the Wild. It is an earlier edition of the Master of Many Forms PrC with more options of things you can change into. With 10 levels of that you can change into any size creature (except Colossus), and any type of creature (except Fey), at will. For your last few levels, take 5 levels of Warshaper (I believe it is in Complete Adventurer). With this option, you are severly hampering your spellcasting capabilities, but you gain the flexibility to be whatever is needed to complete the task at hand.

Your group is already really good as is. Everything considered, there's three or four possible choices out there:

    A) Divine caster. Obvious.

    B) Factotum. Limited Heals, and if you take FoI, you're awesome all of the time.

    C) Binder. "Hey, did anybody need anything short of an arcanist?"

    D) Wizard. Never have enough. Sorcerer if you want to feel pimp because you use Solo's Supah S guide.

    E) Swordsage. Your heals will suffer a bit if your beguiler doesn't get a few wands of lesser vigor, but you're going to kill everything reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaallllllly fast.
