i just noticed that there currently isnt a post linking Schlock Mercenary

this online Comic Space Opera by howard tayler has been running daily since june 2000, so if you dont know what sound a plasma cannon makes, or why there is no overkill, then i recomend spending a couple of days reading though the archive.

On another note, where has the conning tower gone??

I think it hit its peak during Book 6, but Schlock Mercenary is still one of my favorite comics.

Tagon thought it looked stupid, so he probably got rid of it during refit.

Might as well start a new Schlock Thread, since it is totally sweet. Not only is it a Tier I comic (according to me!) but it also has updated without fail for years. And it's a daily.

Howard deserves some sort of Internet Award for going beyond the call of webcomic duty, in my opinion.

Hang on a mate of mind has an internet trace on one, I'll get the Doom-Copter or should we use the Fiendish-Plane? You'll need to bring your Troll-seeking ammo.

There is only one think that annoys me, Theo was sooooo much better as a Leuie.

Oh man, I missed that. When the heck did he get promoted?

    More substantively: Ensign Para Ventura

    Thoughts?

I'll say that I certainly don't mind her, and also don't mind her possibly explaining a bit more about robotics in the Taylerverse. After all, aside from Kevyen's brief forays into the field, we know very little about actual AI technology, and their role in society aside from as ships, bombs, and boy bands.

Before the Time Travel, so sort of, um, never...

    Note I said WAS

He was the man they sent to get Targon's father. He proved very competent, a fencer, even handed and leading by the principle of listening to the right grunt.

    Then time un-happened.

The new ensign? She clearly exists only to fill the old role that Elf used to fill, right up until she stopped being that funny.

I found she was introduced in a slightly Mary Sueish way.

    But we'll see.

Ah, I see. I got confused in this strip, because I forgot NCOs get the blue suits too.

You would have thought that Future Kevyn might have mentioned to Present Kevyn or Tagon that Theo was Lieutenant material, if for no other reason than to clear up some awkward interrank romance issues.

I think I forgot to mention it, but I also miss Old Tag with the Karlov skin. I really was taking a shine to him

I've been enjoying Schlock thoroughly since I discovered it a year or two ago (now that was an archive binge an a half), and I don't know that it's necessarily dipped in quality at all. He manages to avert Science Fiction Writers have No Sense of Scale, Did Not Do the Research, and a whole bunch of other stuff; thus far, it's going well.

And... Elf isn't funny now? Two words: "Not anymore." (with reference to Kevyn's alarm going off whenever anyone mentions antimatter on the ship's comms)

And Para Ventura... I've got a very strong suspicion that she's more interesting than she appears, largely because of her Mary-Sue-ish start, and Howard Tayler's blatantly obvious glee at the howls of outrage this provoked. She really seems to be fan-bait at this stage.

Not uniforms, armor. Since they're doing more a show-of-force than actual force, they probably kept the hover-tabs outside the armor. Or Howard decided it to change things.

Also the fact that this is the first we find out the Eyebourough has been promoted, unless you read Schlock's Twitter.

    Hmm...
    It does make sense.
However, the new armor looks very different from what we see at today's strip.

Plus, in dotay's strip we saw epaulettes, and if I remember correctly, we never saw any officer wearing them with armor before (except Doyt, that is).
For example : http://www.schlockmercenary.com/d/20011013.html... although it was the old armor.

Aside from the low profile armor they wear all the time, yeah.

However, this is the first time they've been wearing the heavy armor for show, rather than for combat.

And hopefully the last. Showing a hostile territory who's a ranking officer tends to...speed up the line of promotion, if you catch my meaning.
