Death Ward for a necromancer?
I am looking for a legit way, or a houserule to allow the necromancer of my group to have access to Death ward, and possibly Speak with the dead.
My idea is thata necro should be capable to cast a spell that protects him from energy drain and death magic as well as being able to summon the soul of a dead person. But other than Master specialist (immune to negative energy for a few rounds everytime you cast a necro spell) I don't know any way to do it. I heard there was a feat that allowed you to gain access to a divine domain but you had to have the Wis needed for the spells?"78% of DM's started their first campaign in a tavern. If you're one of the 22% that didn't, copy and paste this into your signature."

Re: Death Ward for a necromancer?
The feat Arcane Disciple will let you add the spells from one domain to your list. Death Ward is the level 4 spell for the Death domain, which would also net you Death Knell at 2nd, Animate Dead at 3rd (instead of 4th, as normal for wizards), Slay Living at 5, and Destruction at 7 (all of the other spells are on the wizard list anyway). Speak with Dead, however, does not appear to be on any of the domain lists.
Arcane Disciple requires that you worship a deity that grants the domain, you can cast each of the spells a maximum of once per day, and you need a Wis of 10 + the spell's level, and any save DC is based on Wisdom instead of Intelligence.Time travels in divers paces with divers persons.

Re: Death Ward for a necromancer?
Dread Necromancer can easily take it with Advanced Learning. (Heroes of Horror).
For a Wizard, Death Domain is okay, but you can only use it once a day, so that removes a lot of the use - I guess you could Chain and Reach it for the whole group, but that'd be a ninth level spell. Which, though not much higher than Death Ward Mass, isn't quite as useful.

Re: Death Ward for a necromancer?
If you don't have Heroes of Horror, http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cwc/20060627a and http://www.devinweb.com/dreadnecromancerspells.htm should contain all the information you need to play as one.
EDIT: According to that spell list, DNs get Death Ward as a level 3 spell, so they won't need to use Advanced Learning to get it.Last edited by Tempest Fennac; 2008-05-31 at 01:39 PM.
