Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
It's a book, Orsen Well's 1984. Might as well read it now; you're going to have to someday. Oh, and it's very interesting...

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
It's essentially the concept of the book used to mass-market a reality TV show.
I liked the book, except for the ending which I thought was pretty weird and disappointing.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
I found the ending to be actually in line with the rest of the book. Sure, it's a Downer Ending, but you couldn't expect anything less. I found it highly suggestive of how they control how the public thinks...
Edit: Yes it is.
No I haven't.

Yup. Been an AMENite for wow, has it already been nine months? Just dropping into Town now, though.
Brave New World is another anti-utopia, much like 1984. It's a different sort of futuristic setting, in that the government keeps everyone in line through genetic engineering and drugs to keep everyone 'happy' all the time, but it's still pretty scary.Quote Of TheWeekWhenever I Feel Like Updating It (last updated 1/17/12)SpoilerOriginally Posted by Phase

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
I'm agreeing with Quinsar, but . . . that would cut a good . . . half? Of us off from most of our characters.
How about, instead of never showing up, they do show, but;
A) It's limited,
B) They can not fight. They would only be there for drinks, and interaction.
I think if both A and B are listened to, that your idea would work.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
Given as how many of the people in the PL thread would be out a bunch of characters, myself included... :\
I again don't think that placing hard and fast controls on what people can do with characters in a freeform is a good idea. If someone has a character that's way too good, and who is not controlled well by the player, speak to them and ask them to tone it down. If they don't, just don't RP with/against them until they fix it.
I've seen very powerful characters that were still able to do what they pleased in Town and not affect it too much because their players were very good RPers and knew what was acceptable and what was not.
Anyways, if you really want to ban combat for characters of a certain level, make it at least higher than 7, that's halfway through adventurer. Cutting it off after the second class of Hero might work better, I think.Last edited by LordVader; 2008-09-02 at 10:27 PM.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
Very good points. A lot of people would loose a lot of characters.
((I'd loose like . . . two thirds of mine?))
Or, just do what I do.
Avoid combat.
Or, if you do enter combat, PM the person you're fighting.
Believe it or not, it does help.
It might slow posting, but if it's just you two fighting, that's fine.
I'm just throwing ideas out.
None of them have to be listened too.Spoiler: Quotes

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
I'm not really experienced with any of this, but I do think that while we're reforming the town, I agree with Mee.
Powerful characters should tone it down, and not fight, but if they just disappeared it would be...interesting.
I'm glad Quinsar came up with this, it'll change things for the better.
Anywho...
What have I been missing lately in the DFI? After all, it is supposed to be a DFI thread, no?
Updates would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
Sooo... Advice on toning down Lupy? I'm thinking that if I make it clear he'll slaughter a five of lower, and sixes should watch out, thinks will be good.
And also, as we all know, Lupy has to have a finger in every pie, and I think that makes him an amusing character at times...

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
So far this is just a hypothetical question, but I'd like to ask you guys: would another church/powerful cleric provide a balance to Lupy; providing the two players work together to not have the clerics fight?

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
What I'd suggest in regards to character power imbalances in fights is the following:
1) If you know that your character will crush/die horribly to the other player's, don't pick a fight.
2) If the other player attacks you for no reason when there's clearly an imbalance, tell them you don't want to fight (if it's totally out of the blue and they can't justify it.) If they keep trying to attack you, just ignore it.
3) If two characters must fight, and you want it to be even, either find some excuse to buff up the weaker character or nerf down the stronger one for that fight.
I'm not sure PMing fights is a good idea as it kinda detaches interaction with any other characters in the area.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
Firefox... I think the deal with Lupy isn't another equal, but rather that certain players think it's funny to do things to see how far he'll let things slide before snapping... And I think that a wizard or warlock would be a better parallel... I like being the only cleric in town!
Anyway, I think what we need is a big excuse for Lupy not to have to explode when he always has in the past... Shorey was good at that... Maybe someone who scares him?SpoilerAvatar, and many thanks, to Nevitan!

Re: Dancing Fox Inn OOC chat thread I
Shory shouldn't scare him anymore.
You have to try and keep 11s out of fights, remember? That rule effectively makes them defenseless.
Thus, Lupy's more powerful than Shor'esh now.
