Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
Fan, when Harbinger Epoch arrived, you were not online. Draken asked me what the defences were, and I said 'Um, I don't know. Let's say Prot vs Evil and an alignment detector'. So he used Nondetection to get past it. He didn't ignore it. Repeat: Draken Did Not Ignore GLoG Defences!
Since Epoch has been in the base, he's done three things:
1. Stop Turtle from praying. For a little while.
2. Stop Susan from delivering the message from Dipsnig.
3. Steal the note Turtle left on the fridge.
Do you really consider this game-breaking in any way?

Past waters don't move the wheel.
In later events, Fanboy is being as good as... Warhammer 40k Space marines. I would say they are given as the good faction in 40k. That's like saying the tanar'ri who will kill you quickly for no reason is a better individual than the tanar'ri who will kill you slowly for no reason.

1. No
2. Whatever the hell that means: No
3. Just say that the base's material is invulnerable, or made of voidsteel, or... or... or something!
4. No
5. No
6. Sure
7. Sure
8. No
9. Overkill
10. Sure
11. Automated -- sure
12. Sure
13. Sure
14. Sure
15. Sure
16. Just say all the bedrooms have "anti-scry barriers" or something. *ahem* Sure
Now it appears to me that we should consider all of these defenses to be like a gigantic anti-plot bat. That's why most of them should go down immediately.

Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
Elbaorate beyond using WH40k references?
So far your sayign that Fan is militant, and enjoys killing.
OOC I may like to see a villian go down, but thats a personal satisfaction of seeing god triumph over evil
IC: He doesn't enjoy killing otherwisee he would have skinned Vespe, and let him bleed out.
Also yeah.. That was mainly due to Vespe not wanting to cough up information, and even a Paladin will kill for his loved one.

Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
Uh. The tanar'ri part was the relevant one and it was not a 40k reference.
Anyway. Yea. On Vespe's event. It was truly a case of overreaction, Vespe went to deliver a message, with no ill intent attached. In return he was locked, threatened, and I am pretty sure he was punched in the nose as well.

I support Fan's idea for the Private Sanctum, as long as it is limited to the Member's Quarters. All other rooms are fair game.

Perfectly okay. I'll leave it up another day or two, and then tally up the votes. But now that you've voted, we've covered our most active members.

But yeah, thanks to the current wording I'm imagining a situation sorta like this:

Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
That disturbs me in ways you cannot imagine.
Namely the beating of one with the corpses of dead catgirls.
The amount of force that would be required to swing one effectively vastly outweighs the value of hitting someone with a dead body.

Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
Even though the voting is still open, I'm going to start trying to better describe the defences that look likely to be chosen:
Okay, I'm one of the two people who voted against this one, so I just have questions rather than answers. Would this include interior walls as well as exterior? What about doors and windows? Doesn't a two foot thick wall keep a lot of sunlight out?
Whatever else is decided, Turtle's conservatory will not be lead lined. Might make it hard for plants to grow when the LIFE GIVING RADIATION OF THE SUN can't get through.
6. A X-ray scan on everyone who goes through. (non radioactive.)
5 Yes
7 No
If you want them, then try and sell the idea. It might sway the voting.
7. Protection from evil on the entire base.
9 Yes
3 No
"This spell wards a creature from attacks by evil creatures, from mental control, and from summoned creatures. *snip crunchy stuff*"
For roleplay purposes, this means that when you're in the base, you should be able to defend yourself better against attacks than when you're elsewhere.
Example: Melody is at the Taverna when Alek telepathically commands her to quack like a duck. Melody quivers in exertion as she tries to resist the command, but a loud QUACK escapes her.
vs.
Melody is in the greatroom when Alek telepathically commands her to quack like a duck. Melody scrunches up her face in exertion for a moment, but is able to resist the order.
10. Keep the no-unauthorized-teleporting thing within the base, but the grounds are open
11 Yes
1 No
11. Alignment scanners
11 Yes
1 No
This doesn't mean that anything attacks you if you are evil. It just means that if you want to conceal your alignment, you have to work at it.
12. A blessing to anyone of good alignment
10 Yes
2 No
Hey... it's written in plain English! I don't have to translate!
13. Hallow.
10 Yes
2 No
SpoilerHallow makes a particular site, building, or structure a holy site. This has four major effects.
First, the site or structure is guarded by a magic circle against evil effect.
Second, all Charisma checks made to turn undead gain a +4 sacred bonus, and Charisma checks to command undead take a -4 penalty. Spell resistance does not apply to this effect. (This provision does not apply to the druid version of the spell.)
Third, any dead body interred in a hallowed site cannot be turned into an undead creature.
Finally, you may choose to fix a single spell effect to the hallowed site. The spell effect lasts for one year and functions throughout the entire site, regardless of the normal duration and area or effect. You may designate whether the effect applies to all creatures, creatures who share your faith or alignment, or creatures who adhere to another faith or alignment. At the end of the year, the chosen effect lapses, but it can be renewed or replaced simply by casting hallow again.
Spell effects that may be tied to a hallowed site include aid, bane, bless, cause fear, darkness, daylight, death ward, deeper darkness, detect evil, detect magic, dimensional anchor, discern lies, dispel magic, endure elements, freedom of movement, invisibility purge, protection from energy, remove fear, resist energy, silence, tongues, and zone of truth. Saving throws and spell resistance might apply to these spells’ effects. (See the individual spell descriptions for details.)
An area can receive only one hallow spell (and its associated spell effect) at a time. Hallow counters but does not dispel unhallow.
Hmm... okay. Like Draken said, this duplicates 7. And we probably want to drop the undead hurting stuff, since we've been friendly to the living impaired since the start. But will the area being holy cause problems for Wenomir?
I guess that 'spell effect' thing is supposed to refer to the Sanctuary? So I'll go to it next.
14. Greater Sanctuary, target: Everyone.
7 Yes
4 No
15. Remove the ban on the anti-magic-field spell. Since we're not playing D and D, we can ignore it's broken-ness. People can try and create anti-magic effects, but the people targeted by the spell get to say how much it affects them.
11 Yes
1 No
16. All bedrooms are completely scry-proof
5 Yes
0 No

Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
A sanctuary is a personal protective effect. While it is active, it prevents a creature from being attacked by other creatures. However, the sanctuary drops if the protected being attacks another being.
In D&D terms, a sanctuary allows a will save. The attacker may, with a strong enough force of will, pierce the protection. Greater Sanctuary merely doesn't give this chance. The shield does not drop until the spell's duration expires, or the warded creature attacks.

So... if Turtle was standing alone in a room with Alek, Nomlas, Furore, and Harbinger Epoch none of them could attack her as long as she didn't attack them first?

Re: GLoG OOC Chat Thread I: Sporks vs Foons
Hallow doesn't do damage. It is an entirelly protective effect, not offensive. The 'disadvantage' undead suffer inside Hallow is mrely that their Spawn ability does not work. Also, turning them becomes easier, but this requires, first, that an actual cleric tries to turn the undead. Rebuking them, on the other hand, becomes harder, which means the undead get a modicum of safety against having their will striped from them by an evil cleric.
And yes. Greater Sanctuary can be dispelled.
And yes, these people wouldn't be able to attack, well, they would, but their attacks would be stopped and their protection would drop. It is possible to perform other, potentialy hostile actions, however. I have to go check sanctuary again.
