Wizard Spellbook?
Hello, everyone.
I was hoping someone could help me with this. As a DM, I like to make things easy on my players... particularly newbie players who are trying out a new, difficult class they've never used before.
I was hoping to find, essentially, an IRL wizard's spellbook. Something to the general effect of the following:
Page 1: Spells prepared today, with 4 blanks per spell level (since wizards get 4 spells of each level eventually)
Page 2: 0 level spells known
Page 3: 1 level spells known (can print extra if need more space)
And so on, with more pages for the different spell levels.
Surely, surely, someone somewhere has crafted such a delightful tool for wizards, as opposed to having to handwrite out the spells every time, and has posted it online.
Or perhaps, some other form of spell-tracking. I'd have to know about it to figure out the proper search terms in Google...
Alas, if none can be found, I'll have to get my lazy butt on Word and craft one myself.
Thanks for your help! ^-^Last edited by rubycona; 2008-12-07 at 07:18 AM.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
I used the 3x3 baseball card sheets in a binder. Top left corner was the level, the DC's for each school, other pertinent information.
The remaining 8 slots? I just put a small card with the spell in it, basic ranges, targets, special information.
When I cast, I pulled the spell out. It's a wonderful prop, and makes it more hands on. You'll actually have your wizard referencing an actual book, heh.
Even easier for sorcerors, as the top left card uses castings per day, and such, and the others are static cards showing spells known.Last edited by Talic; 2008-12-07 at 07:37 AM.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
I would note that a wizard with a high enough intelligence can have significantly more than 4 spells per day. Look up the bonus spells table on page 8 of the PHB.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
For the record, EMass has an excellent spell list generator. You could throw him a blank paper to write the prepared spells on - with E-mass generator, you can make a spell list out of just the sources you're going to use, split by levels.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
I made THIS basic spell sheet a while ago. It's not as complex and still requires you to do all the work, but it works for me. For best results, I tried to put it inside one of those plastic sheet protectors and used a wet-erase marker to track which and how many spells were prepared, how many had been used, and stuff like that.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
Thanks for your help, everyone.
Lacking note cards and a card holder binder thing (sleepy...), and finding the text suggestions to be less to my liking than I'd hoped, I went ahead and created my own.
It's got some stuff for house rules, but word is easy to edit. I thought I'd post it in case anyone else wants to see it, for their own game or whatever reason. I figure he can keep the first two pages with his char sheet, and the rest of the pages tucked away in his binder, to peruse when resting and such.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
Also, there is an alternate class feature Focused Specialist that gives up another school of magic to gain another spell slot per level. And The prestige class Master Specialist that gives another spell slot per level.
The feat Precotious Apprentice from Complete Mage gives an extra 2nd level slot as well.
Sooo... a wizard can get quite a few spell slots if they are willing to give up some versatility in their range of spellcasting.

Re: Wizard Spellbook?
Somewhat less basic, there, so I don't feel so silly :P
Having more spell slots on the sheet would be better, if I were to remake it, but for this game, he's just testing out a wizard for the first time, so he's going straight wizard, no prestige classes. Our group doesn't have much in the way of extra books (some, but not too many) so the odds are very, very low he'll pull out more spell slots than listed. It'll do :P
Thanks again for your help, everyone.
