It isn't prepatched. So you need to download the patch in the link there. Then you need a clean Leaf Green rom (it can't already be patched with anything). Then rename the patch to <Something simple>.ips rename the rom to <the same name as the patch>.gba and rename the save file to <the same thing as the other two>.sav/.sa1 (depending on whether you're using VBA or VBA-L).

For example, "LG Moemon 1.6.1.ips" "LG Moemon 1.6.1.gba" and "LG Moemon 1.6.1.sa1"

The save file should be the same as the one you're currently using, the rom should be a fresh download, the patch is on the youtube page.

She looks at me with eyes that see right through my soul -- given that the rest of them get a sense of what I'm feeling, I'm betting that's literal.
And the cold! I get a little worried just for that -- if I blink too much, will my eyelids freeze shut, like those Antarctic researchers? Azula's hugging me fiercely, and her warmth is better than any jacket that I may have forgotten in my packing. It radiates out around her -- near her skin, the water vapor in the air becomes snowflakes so small that I only see them in their movement, a slowly radiating flurry spawned in the beating of her wings.
Articuno:"Who dares my lair?"
"I-I guess that would be me."
"Confidence, Mistress."
"Yeah! That's me! Seed, pokemon trainer!"
"How charming. What sort of person claims mastery... And then needs her vassal to cling to her?"
"Azula's my partner. Also, it's really cold!"
"...'Partner'? I see. So what you have isn't 'mastery'...you're one of those humans, who rely on others to fill their weakness... And then pretend that desperation, that weakness, has value."
"Oh, that's it." "That's enough!"
We glance at one another.
"We're taking you down!"
Because somewhere out there, there is something waiting for me. A beautiful future with my sister. That's worth anything.
"Why should I even bother fighting weakness like yours?"
"Because I am challenging you. Formally -- because I'll be champion of whatever the heck worlds I need to be!"
"...But would your pokemon battle me? Surely, she can't leave your side... Without you freezing to death where you stand."
We glance at each-other. It's hard to argue -- I mean, Azula's basically pure flame wrapped in a shell of warm flesh that is also partially on fire. It would be difficult to invent something warmer than her, and it's still cold.
"Mistress..."
"And, of course, a pokemon who can't fight... that's also pathetic. Why should I --"

I look down at Azula again. We nod, and she lets me go and steps ahead. Immediately, my teeth start to chatter, as I stand there, holding myself against the cold. My bones join in the chorus.
"L-l-let's make this quick, sh-sh-shhhall we?"
"It will be quick; fighting you."
"It will be quick, defeating you."


She lets out a high battlecry, and we're joined in battle.

It already stings, the wind she kicks up with her wings -- it's plunged somewhere deep into my chest, to my stomach. It's frozen up the inner coils of my organs and drinks the heat out from them like a man in a desert oasis.

"A-a-azula..." I can barely get out the command for shaking. She gives me a concerned look.
"F-flamethrower!"

That's not a good sign, but with how strong she is, it's not unexpected.
She circles and returns with an icy-cold blast of her own, that flows around Azula and to me; my clothes feel stiff and thin, like they're just sugarworks for show, like I'm really just naked in the cold. Azula winces and growls, hunched over against the assault.

And that is really not good. I fumble in my bag, fighting my fingers as they go from red to white. I don't know what the next stage is -- I'm pretty sure it's 'black.' Thanks, brain, for reminding me. I go to my bag for something to heal Azula -- while she could probably get in her hit...
"B-but I d-don't w-w-want to risccc-cccc it."
Stupid teeth.
"I apologize for the delay, Mistress."
I shake my head.

Well, that's my last hyper potion. I never seem to do the shopping I need. I watch my hands toss the remains away, to make sure they're actually doing it. At this point, I'm not sure I'd know.

"Not even strong enough to fight on your own. What could you ever do... To get what you want, little fire-starter? You’ll never be happy, be worthy of happiness… clinging to a human like that."
Azula’s eyes widen as she hears this, and her posture changes to a person who’s heard something that pierces to the core.

"Thank you."

You know, I'm actually starting to feel kinda comfy.
No, that's -- that's no good. W-what was it the survival books said...about that? Kinda fuzzy...
"For showing you the true path of strength? Hmph. I don't need things like 'thanks.'"
"You showed me... Two things. First: How stupid I sounded... When I believed those things."
"!"


"And how lucky I was.. To be saved from that ugly, foolish heart of mine."
"How dare you beat me...And utter foolish words like that. Fate must have turned against me..."
"Believe what you will; you'll simply be wrong."


Something blurs around the edges... And something screams, high and thin and sad
And... And as she vanishes in an explosion...of white-snow crystals.
"We've done it -- M-Mistress? Mistress!"

It goes black, for a while.

When I wake up, Azula's looking me worriedly in the face, kneeling next to me, her flame-lit tail held over my heart. They've lit a little fire.
"G-guys..."
"Mistress! You're awake! Is everything alright!"
"My toes hurt..."
"It was Spike's idea."
"Hey, you were the one worried about circulation in her toes! I just figured a massage would help!"
...My third thought, being awake, was that I would pay money to have seen that. My fourth is that Azula's bearhugs hurt.
"Don't you do that again! Mistress, warn us next time! And when we get to town, we are buying you warmer clothes and --"
"I-I'm ok...We did it though, didn't we?"
"...That we did, Mistress."
"It was awesome! That's one legendary pokemon down, 5 more to go!"
"6."
"Nuh-uh... I counted!"
"The Prime."
"Aint the Prime dead?"
"Yes. It's said...that love entered that heart, and so it couldn't live anymore."
"Now that's just bull!"
"Maybe, maybe not. Have you ever been in love, Spike? Do you love someone enough to find out?"
She leans in close and couples her smile with a narrow-eyed glare.
"..."
"Hey!"
"Just kidding, just kidding... And, even still, if the Prime has been reborn... Then that is our most challenging battle."
"Stop squabbling in front of the Mistress with your silly Primist talk!"
Ah, pseudo-religious squabbles. It warms the heart.
Chu-Chu taps my shoulder and hands me a blue-white feather.
"...She didn't even have a feather. How did that work?"
"I don't know, but it is her crest, and the sign that you've defeated her. Some of the others will want a sign to be sure."
"But she didn't even --" I pause and shake my head.
"Well, let's just get out of this dang cave."
As I stood up, I noticed that it was already a lot warmer, and bits of the ice were melting.
She was a tempurature-bearing boss, I guess.


Now, the interesting question... Where the bleeping bleep is out?

"Umm... I could show you."
I turn around and see the little Psyduck tugging at my leg.
No, not my pant-leg. My actual leg. It stung.
"Oh, really? Thanks."
"No problem! Besides, you've got a great hat!"
"Yours is nice as well."
"Thank you! It's my thinking cap. I use it for keeping out headaches."
"Don't psyducks use headaches to channel psychic powers?"
Or something like that...
"I never said I was a good psychic."
"I see..."
"You're thinking something like 'a pity; I'd have liked her help...'right?"
I wasn't really thinking anything but that first part.
"Don't worry, though; I'll come with you anyway!"
I guess she really isn't a good psychic... But either way, she's now a member of the crew.


At last, I make it out to the other side! Light! Air! Tempuratures reasonable for the season!

Her face spreads into an earnest, simple smile.


"Nope." I'm on a quest.



"Hey, wait a second... Didn't you see the scary glasses lady with the sharp elbows tell you to get off?"
Girl: "Yeah, but I don't care. I came to party!... By myself."

Yeaaahh...No. Creep.

I was considering her being secretly captured, and showing up again... Hope of that being what I did isn't dead until the end of the game. Or you can continue to rage -- whichever.

As a side note, not counting Mewtwo and Suicune, there are about as many legendaries as I have team members. I'm thinking of having each team member take out a legendary, as a bit like Azula's in this chapter. I'm not sure if I should do it in the order I deem best, or have you vote beforehand who fights what. I'm sort of inspired by Chrono Trigger's "everyone has a sidequest (except Ayla, sigh)" idea.

Articuno's sprite is absolutely gorgeous. Props to Fizzmeister, or whoever he had make sprites for him if he didn't do it.

I claim no credit for the vast majority of the sprites. I got all of them from here, http://www35.atwiki.jp/moemon The only thing I did spritewise was rip the sprites from the Japanese hack, into a US Leaf Green rom, edit weedle a little bit, and edit Ho-oh a lot. Then all of the other changes were by me. Also, I mixed and matched from several different hacks, which is why some of the sprites are a surprise to people, even though there's a spritesheet posted on here.

Cinnabar! I can get someone else to test whether or not the lab works now. Not that I didn't test it, it's just that I don't trust myself. In my opinion, the only legendary that isn't gorgeous (other than mewtwo and kinda deoxys for the obvious reasons) is Lugia.

Epic fight, easily worth the dropped legendary (though Articuno did look quite awesome).
