WWW: WereWolves of Wildespell (Night 8)
So I've been playing werewolves for some time face-to-face, and once on these boards, and noticed that the roles are somewhat different, and thus I decided to run the version I know so well, and run it here, changing some things up a little bit to fit my likes. For the observant reader; Wildespell is not a translation of Wakkerdam, but it fits, so I'm rolling with it.
WereWolves of Wildespell
Welcome to Wildespell, a quaint little town in the middle of a mountain pass, far from larger cities or castles, and thus, forced to be self-sufficient. It's never had any knights who came from there, no notable figures of any kind, actually. But still, the town has survived for generations, and everybody knows everybody. It's a cozy place for people who don't mind hard work and cold weather, and everyone receives a warm welcome here, despite who you might be, what you did or didn't do, or who you know, one is only judged for what the people of Wildespell personally see, and are thus very independant.
However, some time ago, only a few months before winter fell, the valleys below, the mountains above, and even the town itself were snowed under. Though hard-working as they were the people quickly got their town cleaned up, access in or out has been blocked since, because nobody wants to clean the entire road down into the valley for miles and miles. This in itself isn't a problem for Wildespell, but it is a problem for the traders that tend to come through here on their travels, trade some of their goods, maybe sleep a night, and move on. As a result, nobody was able trade anything, or even keep communication through the mountains possible. Despite all these hardships, the people of Wildespell live on, trudging through their day, but grow more and more restless, almost angry at the world, for this isolation.
Spoiler: The CitizensTeam Village
SpoilerSpoiler: VeteranThe Veteran
The veteran is not well-known in the village, as he keeps to himself quite often, but he is respected for his service. Moreover, he has been toughened by the service he has given, and is still in surprisingly good physical shape.
Passive Power: Immune to a night kill by wolves once, if the wolves target him again, he dies.
Spoiler: ClairvoyantThe Clairvoyant
The clairvoyant is a suspicious one, always looking for bad things about people, always looking for what people are trying to hide, even if they're not trying to hide anything, and always finds it, with the help of his crystal ball.
Night Power: Scries one person each night, learns the specific role of this person, without fail, not necessarily their affiliation. Also knows if this person is being Sniffed by the Bloodhound or not.
Spoiler: PriestThe Priest
The village has a single religious figure, and that's all they need, it's never been very big. The priest runs the Sunday sermons, stands watch over the dead, and says a prayer each night before going to bed.
Night Power: Chooses one person to protect from a wolf kill each night. He can choose the same person more than once, but never the same person two nights in a row.
Spoiler: MountaineerThe Mountaineer
The Mountaineer is a fellow that likes to trek in the mountains, going ever further up, hunting game like mountain goats and buffalos, he supplies food for the town in this time of need, and as such, his is a job much coveted, so to protect himself, he always carries a gun with him, even to bed.
Passive Power: If killed by wolves, kills one wolf at random, if killed by village lynch, kills one citizen of his choice, that voted for him.
Spoiler: ApothecaryThe Apothecary
The Apothecary is simultaneously the herbalist, and the mix of these professions tends to be confusing, but she has gained her benefit from it. She can even cook very well, and if a feast is organized, the village goes to her to cook it. In her own time, she has made some special brews, mixtures, potions, and even poisons at times.
Night Power: Knows the target of the wolf kill before the night is over, and with this info, can do one of two things each night.
- Regeneration Potion: Save the target of the wolf kill, essentially voiding the kill by the wolves for one night.
- Poison of Death: Kill a target in addition to the wolf kill, essentially getting another night kill.
She can do both of these things once per game.
Spoiler: Hopeless RomanticThe Hopeless Romantic
Nobody knows of the Hopeless Romantic, as he only came into town recently, hopelessly trying to win the heart of every girl in town, which soon became impossible as they were all repulsed by him. So he decided to try and couple other people instead, and sends letter to this effect.
Night Power: Before the first day, chooses two people who gain the attribute 'Lover' and lose their original Team affiliation, and gain the new Team affiliation of Team Lover. After this, the Hopeless Romantic has no special powers other than his affiliation to Team Village.
Spoiler: Simple SoulThe Simple Soul
The Simple Soul is, in one word, simple. He doesn't want anything specific out of life that he knows of, can't do much in life other than provide manual labor. It's hard to get to know him, but once one does, one can see that his heart is all good inside.
Day Power: Immune to Lynch once. If this happens, his role is revealed, and forever more his vote will count as a half less. This means that if he is simultaneously Mayor, his vote just counts as a single vote.
Spoiler: Boy Who Cried WolfThe Boy Who Cried Wolf
Every town has one of these youngsters, he thinks he sees something dangerous, comes back running and yelling about it, and it turns out to be false. In his case, he does actually cry wolf, but nobody believes him anymore, and people always tend to point to him when something bad does happen.
Day Power: When the vote for Lynch is a tie, dies. If this happens, he can choose a number of people whose vote doesn't count the next day. This number is one plus the amount of remaining players divided by ten, rounded up.
Night Power: You know how the wolf vote went, but not the target or the wolves. You can get one of four answers:
- Unanimous - All NK votes were for the same person.
- Majority - Not everyone voted for one person, but a decision was reached.
- Divided - More than one person had the most votes, no decision was reached.
- No Votes - No votes were cast for NK this Night.
Spoiler: VillagerThe Villagers
Well, a town isn't complete without some people who are simply normal, and provide for the town's well-being in simple ways, not asking much, simply doing their job.
No Power,, simply has one vote, just like every other citizen.
The Secret Role has died, and was as follows:
Spoiler: Know-it-allThe Know-it-all
You have always had a knack for knowing things, or wanting to find things out, and this has supplied you with an extraordinary, almost supernatural sense of what's going on where, and this can be a very useful skill to have.
Passive Power: You know exactly what's going on in the night. Though you have to choose two Roles to know about. You do not know the players that fill the roles, simply what Role X does.
For example, in Night 1 the following might happen:
- The Clairvoyant Scries [Target Player Name]
- The Bloodhound Sniffs [Target Player Name]
- The Priest Prays for [Target Player Name]
- The Wolves aim to Kill [Target Player Name]
- The Apothecary uses/doesn't use potion X on [Target Player Name]
- [Target Player Name #1], [Target Player Name #2] and [Target Player Name #3] Become Enchanted by the Magician.
A Team Village Win is achieved when all the Wolves, the Bloodhound, and the Magician.
Team Wolf
SpoilerSpoiler: WolfThe Wolves
While the Boy cried about these creatures one too many times, nobody ever found proof, but they do exist, and they exist among the citizens of Wildespell, disguised as just about any villager. These guys mean to make Wildespell a werewolf run village.
Night Power: Know the other werewolves and the bloodhound, has a vote for the night 'Wolf' kill.
Spoiler: BloodhoundThe Bloodhound
Everyone wants a guard dog, but this guy isn't simply a guard dog, he's a lycanthrope. However, he's not a were-wolf, but a were-bloodhound, and his scent is a valuable tool to the lycans, only they don't consider him part of their pack, since he's not a wolf, but he'll do anything to get in and prove otherwise.
Night Power: Know who the werewolves are. Sniffs one person each night, learns the specific role of this person, without fail, not necessarily their affiliation. Also knows if this person is being Scried by the Clairvoyant or not. Does not have a vote for the night 'Wolf' kill.
A Team Wolf Win is achieved when the Lynch votes of Team Wolf Members outnumber those of all other teams combined.
Team Magic
SpoilerSpoiler: MagicianThe Magician
The Magician is a one-man-band, he came to town right before the snow fell, almost as if he knew when it would. Secretly, he wants to control the town through magical means, and each citizen in it, simply so that he knows exactly what happens at all times and can react more quickly for the greater good.
Night Power: Enchants a number of people every night, these people will be enchanted for the whole game. They know that they've become enchanted, and know the other people that got enchanted, but not who did it, or what the roles of the other people are. This number is equal to one plus the amount of initial players divided by ten, rounded up. In this game, this was three.
A Team Magic Win is achieved when The Magician is alive, and all other remaining players that are alive are enchanted.
Team Love
SpoilerSpoiler: LoverThe Lovers
These two lovebirds are absolutely and irrevocably in love with one another and care about nothing else but their love. They fell in love from letters sent to them from a strange address, but that doesn't matter, as al they care for is their love.
Not a Role. This is, much like the Mayor, a gained attribute in addition to one of the roles described above. When two people are chosen as Lovers by the Hopeless Romantic, they lose their initial Team affiliation, and become the two sole members of Team Love.
Special: If one of the two Lovers dies, the other one immediately dies out of grief for their lost Lover. The Two Lovers also can never put in a negative vote against the other, this includes a lynch vote and a Wolf NK vote, but not an Enchanting of the Magician or a vote for Mayor.
A Team Love Win is achieved when either both Lovers are alive when any other Team wins, or the two Lovers are only two people alive.
The Mayor
Spoiler: MayorThe Mayor
In times of need, which are few and far between, the citizens of Wildespell elect a Mayor from among them to lead them through the hardship and to see to it that their well-being is priority #1. He generally leads the town council and people have a higher tendency to listen to him.
Not a Role. Unlike the Lovers, the Mayor keeps his Team affiliation when he becomes Mayor, which happens during a separate election on Day 1. A Person can be both Lover and Mayor.
Day Power: His Lynch vote counts as one-and-a-half. If the Mayor is later revealed to be the Simple Soul, his vote count is still reduced, and is then exactly one.
Special: If the Mayor dies, the new Mayor is chosen by the old, dead, one. There are no new elections.
So, I'm thinking this will start out as a small 20-player game, so if you're interested, please do post, so we can start quickly.

[/table]
Format to organize roles shamelessly copied from Gray Mage's Zelda Game, I was looking for inspiration, and I found it.
A couple things to note:
- Mayoral posts are preferred to be completely in Indigo, affirming, with every post, that this person is indeed the Mayor, as well as making it clear immediately that it is a public, open position. The successor will be named publicly, and all posts from the new Mayor should then also be in all Indigo going forward.
- When a player dies, all info pertaining that player is given out. This includes Role, as well as Affiliation. From this point on, the player can still post in-thread, but not allowed to give any type of information/hints/possible theories to the still living.
- Both the Lynch and the Mayor vote are by plurality; whoever has the most votes at the end of the 48h period is chosen, granted that this person has at least 25% of the votes. If there is a majority, one person has more than 50% of the votes, I end the period early and this person is chosen.
- The autolynch rule will be enforced: If you have not voted to lynch someone two days in a row, you will be autolynched. Make sure you do.
The current people in danger of being autolynched are:
- Nobody
If this list incorrectly states you are on it, please quote the post you voted in to scrap your name off this list.

Re: WWW: WereWolves of Wildespell
Much like Gray Mage said, the Priest chooses his protect subject before I send the wolves' victim to the Apothecary, otherwise the two working together would be a very powerful combo indeed, as the wolves would indeed lose half their night kills (or more, if they don't choose the same target twice in a row every time).
Also, I've added everyone to the player list, and I'm going to add a Lover restriction when next I have access to my computer: "May not vote to lynch the other, ever. Not even an off-bandwagon vote to maybe throw off suspicion. If one is a wolf, may not vote to NK the other, ever." They are hopelessly and irrevocably in love, after all.
Also, to clarify (or confuse, depending on if I word this right): The Apothecary knows if any ability that would protect someone is in effect on the Wolf kill target before s/he chooses to use one of hir potions, and nightly actions trump one-time actions in order of importance So if the veteran is the target of the Wolf kill, and is being prayed for by the Priest, the Apothecary knows s/he won't die if nothing is done, but not why, and the veteran gets to keep hir immunity.

Re: WWW: WereWolves of Wildespell
Awesome, already at half the people I would like to play with.
Which makes me think, if allowed, I'll give reserved spots (until confirmed by a post here) to anyone who had expressed interest in this game over at WW central, until either they've been on the forum or a day or so has passed. This so that people don't feel cheated out of a spot just because they didn't check the forum regularly enough.
Edit: Keep in mind C'nor, the Lovers aren't specifically anybody's enemies, they're just nobody else's friends. Having said this, I'll keep it in mind when I review the game for flaws after we finish, but for now I'll probaby keep it.

Re: WWW: WereWolves of Wildespell
It's your game, do as you like as far as that goes.
Edit:
True... But (except for Fae I, which was wonky enough that the confirmed seer-mason was lynched openly) there's been pretty much a thing of 'Oh, you're neutral? Die!'. So...Last edited by Lady Serpentine; 2013-11-15 at 04:14 AM.

I'd like to sign up. It's been too long since I've played a good game of WW.
On another note, I like the 'lovers can't vote for each other' rule. It makes sense and makes things more interesting. It may be a plain tell in some cases, but if they're going to end up dead anyway...Click to view my dragons and help them grow!

Re: WWW: WereWolves of Wildespell
If people are really that openly hostile and murderous towards the Lovers, than we have more problems than the no-voting restriction, because then I'd probably have to make the Hopeless Romantic either also on team Love, or assign the Lovers myself.
Also, I purposely did not specify any team as 'neutral', or even 'good/evil', but I guess people go with the majority as the 'good' team. Anyway, that's just specifics.

You're welcome! As for Writ's Block, it was weiiiiird, Flabort ran it. Lots of teams, and everyone was on two, as I recall. I was, for instance, a Scenery Shipper.
But it's less anything specific you did than that you were a good player and improved the overall fun level of the game.

Count me in! Though, win question: Can Team Magic get a joint win, or is the game over when the Magician wins?
Also, if the Mayor dies, are players told who the new Mayor is? That could definitely change strategy for a wolf Mayor...

Re: WWW: WereWolves of Wildespell
Room for all three of you, now at 17/20 players and counting. Aaaand Full Moon was this morning (or all of today, really), so that's a titbit...
Anyway, Team Magic can have a joint win, but only with Team Love, which would have to mean that both Lovers are enchanted, the game ends as soon as all people are enchanted by the magician (so it is in your best interest to enchant people likely to stay alive for a long time).
You know there's only a 1 in 20 chance you'll actually get the Magician (Enchanter)?
In other news; when the Mayor dies, he appoints a new one publicly, and as such, it is always a public position (in the normal game, you'd wear some kind of badge around your neck, pretty public, no?). This makes it very interesting because there's two cases of having a Simple Soul Mayor:
- He takes office, is then revealed to be the Simple Soul; (default vote count is 1.0)
- First his vote count is increased to 1.5
- Then he loses 0.5 vote
- For a total vote count of 1.0
- He is revealed to be the Simple Soul, then takes office by appointment; (default vote count is 1.0)
- First he loses 0.5 vote
- Then is vote count is increased to 1.5
- For a total vote count of 1.5 (and is a VERY public team villager player [or is he?])
This is on purpose.
As a general note, all votes for the Mayor in the first 48h of the Day 1 day phase, should be in Indigo, as should all the Mayor's posts, other than hir votes for lynching, that is. This simulates the publicity of the Mayor
Edit: I seem to have missed the sign-up post by the only player who had expressed interest in WW Central and had yet to post, so the last two slots are open to anyone.
