1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Depending upon how good of care they take care of themselves and their age, IIRC, liches could actually look about the same as a necropolitan.

Then again, usually I imagine necropolitans as X, but greyer and mustier.

Grey groundskeepers grumble about Grisham's grisly grind-rails. would be the minimum I'd say. There's plenty of adjectives such as grand, grandeloquent, grandiose, grisly, grey, gray. Grandeur's always handy, though tends to be linked to delusions.

I got about 7 hours of sleep last night, and we've only just had the weekend (where I tend to lay back any sleep debt I've accumulated over the week). So why do I feel so utterly shattered?

Or maybe you just had bad sleep. Seven hours of bad sleep doesn't do anyone any good.

Bloodied is a 4E catch all term for "half hp".

For me atleast, the description changes based on the type of monster. Elementals bleed their element, constructs crumble or crack, the works.

Although much more is oversleep, surely? Oversleeping can lead to feeling tired, as does malnutrition... Or you could just be sick as above posters have said. Oh, and after five days of sleeping three or so hours a day average sleeping all weekend doesn't typically fix it unless you're an insomniac like I was. In which case, sleep just never comes.

--EDIT-- 4E has 'catch terms'? That could be helpful to new DMs trying to come up with things more RP-y to use.

I wake up tired over the week regularly. Combination of lack of sufficient exercise, day-to-day worries and stress, and overworked mind.

My cure is to go for a run or something and just lie down on the bed or couch or whatever. Don't sleep, and don't read or watch TV or anything, just lie down for 15 minutes or so.

I've found that, unless school is involved I can coast on 5 or less hours of sleep a day.

Never heard the term shattered applied to feeling sleep deprived before, I must admit. Maybe something else is bugging you instead?

You rolled a 3, so you hit it for 3 damage with your longsword." more like "The goblin staggers slightly under the sure blow of your longsword." or something. I'm normally more creative during the day. Hahaha

A 'bloodied lich' or something sounds a lot better than 'a half health lich'. I haven't read the entirety of the DM book, but I haven't really seen a whole lot of guidelines on such phrases to use.

Ahhh, understandable.

Also, then you'd love my DMing style. I very rarely make mention of the numbers, and sometimes do things usually not explicitly alloud (hinting at when the creature is nearly bloodied and such).

Shattered could work as a term for hunger or sleepiness if you assume it shatters your mind, I guess. My explanation anyway.

By the way, I had read somewhere not long ago that while a 9-hour sleep was common a generation ago, the current average is about 7 hours, and is actually slightly more healthy. I can't remember the reasons given or the source though.

And I like 10 hour sleeps. 7 hour sleeps just don't cut it for me, I end up yawning and tired for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately, I seem to suffer from low quality sleep. It just doesn't refresh me as much as it should.

I've figured out that 7 and a half hour of sleep is optimal to me. I usually strive for 8 hours, because it's impossible for me to actually get in bed early enough to manage that long (hehehe), but if I sleep that long, I'll usually just end up tired in the following day. I can usually manage 6 hours or even less without too much loss of mental abilities, but it's generally not a good idea to rely on it.

The last week, however, I've been sleeping very much (compared to my regular sleep), making it 8 to 9 hours on days where I don't set my alarm. I blamed a need to wind down from all the hectic work last week, but I figure it's actually just a fling of spring fatigue. Silly phenomenon (and I can't decide whether I should be surprised that my translator actually accepts "vårtrötthet" ("spring fatigue") as a word, or not).

Mmm, my body is a bit random. Sometimes 4.5 hours is good. Sometimes 6. Sometimes 9. I dunno if I took the whole 90 minutes thing too much to heart or what, haha.

And then other times I'll wake up after 10 hours of sleep and want to doze for another hour. Not nearly as annoying as the times when I'll wake up and then pass out in the middle of getting out of bed without a sufficiently stringent alarm or person there.

I've overslept before (at least i think so) ...it's weird. Your body keeps screaming at you to sleep, and you try, but you only sorta fall asleep, fading in and out of consciousness for hours until eventually you decide you have to get up... and then you're still tired.
