    The rules of Random Banter
(Please follow these to ensure a safe and pleasant journey)

    1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

    2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

    3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

    4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

    5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

    6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

    7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

    8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

    9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

    10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

    11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

    12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

    13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

    14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

    15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Now let the banter commence! :3

Speaking of; I received a bag of Ethiopian single-origin coffee a week or so ago.

It's amazingly delicious. Sort of a sweet, creamy taste, quite unlike what I normally like in coffee, but wow is it good. I'm afraid it might not last the month.
    Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

From the discomfort of truth there is only one refuge and that is ignorance. I do not need to be comfortable, and I will not take refuge. I demand to *know*.

I have a favorite local brand I like to get when I can find it that gives all proceeds back to kids here in the Twin Cities. It doesn't hurt a bit that it's good coffee.

Not the biggest fan of coffee, in that I like the smell but the taste is awful, but I do like hot chocolate. So I'll partake in that (assuming I have some hot chocolate today, mind you).

Apparently it's predicted to go near 0 Fahrenheit today (below with wind chill). Hasn't been this cold in 20 years if so.

    Pfft. Poor you.

Yeah, I really don't know. My dad said something about making a new pipe from a plastic lining that'll react and harden to something they shove it.

We'd actually never close for ice, either. Was weird. People slipping and sliding all over the sidewalks but nope, get yer butt ta school!
That is weird. I figure someone must have gotten seriously hurt walking to school when it was icy in our district. Parents probably sued the school or something.

    Same here.

Sad thing is, 0 F is an improvement from yesterday.

I'd say I can't wait for the weekend, but it's supposed to start snowing again on Thursday. We just can't win this week.

Well, we're beyond my DIY knowledge now. Hope it gets fixed soon.

The folks in rural Central Illinois are a weird bunch. I don't even pretend to understand some of the decisions they've made: not closing for ice but closing for a few inches of snow, then not closing for a half-foot of snow...

There's a picture I saw on icanhascheezburger weeks ago that if I had access to the site I'd go find. The top panel shows I think a city in the southern US with about an inch of snow on the ground with the caption "record setting snowfall shuts down city!", then more panels below it with more and more snow until you get to the bottom panel which just has the Canadian flag on a white background and the caption "looks like spring!"

    Seems appropriate right now

Should be! And it's definitely not a DIY thing. I also should have said chemically reacted, it's weird what they're going to do.

The folks in rural Central Illinois are a weird bunch. I don't even pretend to understand some of the decisions they've made: not closing for ice but closing for a few inches of snow, then not closing for a half-foot of snow...
Odd indeed. The fact that there is a rural, central Illinois confused me for a minute, then I remembered Illinois isn't like Indiana or Ohio and that the biggest city isn't the capital, and the capital isn't in the center of the State.

Yeah, we're just trading one kind of crappy weather for another. Just don't mess up Friday, Ms. Nature, ok? We're going downtown to see Phantom of the Opera then and I'd really rather not have to drive in downtown Chicago when it's snowing...

Ha, that reminds me. We passed a church on the way to work today and if I'd had time I would've gotten a picture. Their sign outside read: "To whomever is praying for snow: Please stop."

Yup. Springfield is about as small as you can get and still be considered "urban," 150,000 people at best if I remember right. The only reason Chicago isn't the state capital is because it's not in the center of the state.

Or warm beverage of choice. I'm not one to force coffee on people (usually), if you don't like/want it there's more for me.

EDIT: If we're talking temps, we are sitting at a balmy -2 (though the weather channel says it feels like -17, not that I'd know since I'm comfy in my office with coffee and sweater and 2 blankets) and a high of 0. A veritable heat wave...

Average temp for us is around -25 to -35. For reference, the weather says, whenever -25 is around, a "high of -25". So -25 is considered high from the POV of the weather station. Make of this as you will.

Yeah... Turns out it isn't frozen, as I suspected. There was a crack and the thing is being infiltrated by tree roots. Also it's the sewer line. Which explains why we can still use our water while the pipe-people are here, but why we aren't allowed to flush/drain.

It was actually really pretty to be outside at night when the snow was coming down. Even digging out was kinda cool, the snow was waist deep in places. I just wish I hadn't been too depressed to appreciate it fully.

Ah, that explains it. Roots love getting into the weeping tile and sewer lines, it's an easy and pretty constant source of water. Then the tiles/pipes crack and start to back up. It's one of those things that can cause really big issues if you don't get it in time.

I...I can't StarCraft today. Not for a few hours at least. I just got repeatedly thrown into matches involving players who should normally be several leagues above me, but who have been dropped into silver for some reason. It's made me rather sour towards the ranking system and game.

Actually I can do quite well against Terrans. I just need to not use the terrible army I was using before. Colossi tend to lose in a fight against thors. Better brace yourself Sheepy.

edit: Alternatively, we could to a team matchup against some other people. I have a rather nice DT rush that can easily make a 2v2 into a 2v1.
