Despicable. What kind of paladins are you?
I love this series, Silverraptor. Wonderful fights, fair amount of comedy, lots of awesome.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
*subscribes*
Damn, you know, I seriously tried to resist the temptation to apply as a character in that story... But the will save DC was waaaay too scarily high.
I really dig this style crossover of classical Paladin fantasy and shonen manga.
Now, if you will have me... I guess I'd like to be a Paladin as well. Maybe one that actually arrives newly... possibly from a monastery, being about 16-17 years old, since I want him to be not quite grown up, but older than the real teenies... I'd actually allow up to 19, but 17 would be a sweet spot.
Being a lover of martial arts for all my life I'd like him to be a close combat specialist. His Paladin sword should be a bastard sword, and I'd like him to be somehow adept in unarmed combat - since d&d monks are masters of that (whyever) coming from a monastery could justify a bit of this. Maybe he could even become a training partner for Viola or generally Paladins - they should have realized by now that unarmed training is important, not to mention that it's extremely helpful if you do not want to kill someone, which is somehow useful to good characters.
As for his power... the best powers for close combat are usually perception powers, but those are already pretty prevalent in your story, so I thought about a momentum related power, which would probably be earth element. This could begin with anchoring himself against the ground when bracing himself against strikes and generating high power and speed when pushing himself off the ground, later maybe generally absoring enemy momentum and generating more momentum and thus power or faster and more fluid movement because he can accelerate and brake himself with his power, maybe culminating in being able to make meelee attacks at a short distance. It would also carry its own risk, since accelerating himself too much or generating too much momentum may put a high strain on his body and quite possibly cause injury. If he'd ever see his ultimate I leave its form to you.
As for his name, unfortunately I have an OOC name on these boards, but if you will, just take the last part and call him "Ysan". Sounds pretty to me and reminds me of the german "Eisen"" (Iron).
P.S.: I'm particularly fond of counter-based fighting (or speaking) styles.
Again, thanks for writing it and sharing it with us, please keep up until the story ends!

I believe that's the single most detailed character that's been offered. Kudos. XD

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Thank you, Sir. It's just that martial arts and RPGs/Characters are two of the things I can talk hours days and weeks about, so if anything I need to hold back when talking about a combination of those.
(However I'm not really happy with the power, but I couldn't think of a cooler one that still fitted the theme.)
EDIT: Just saw, you aren't a Sir... embarrassing, that.

I'll forgive you cause you noticed. XD
Have we had just plain Speed? Then you could punch someone from the other side of the room. Without them noticing. 8DRecent Homebrew: The Socialite | The Crystalline: Memory Altering Construct Race | Sanguine Hand, a ToB Discipline of blood and cruelty

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Though if someone doesn't notice being punched in the face with ultra high speed they are either far above your level or you have very little mass.
Density manipulation would also make for an interesting power. Lots and lots of combat and out of combat applications. Probably overpowered.^^

Unless it required that something else took up the remaining density... switching the density of 2 objects. Like a lead ball and a balloon, and then switching them back. Thud. It works, and it is not quite overpowered; you are limited by available resources.

It could be sight limited. You have to see the object to switch it's density.

I believe you requested being one in the shipping thread when the story was there. If my memory serves me.
Actually, she didn't think it would be a good idea to tell Mordokai that she got the move off of an assassin they were suppose to be hunting down.
And welcome to the list, Partysan.

Paladin Academy: Part 25
-Cast-
Nil
Mordokai
Kurama
Blue
Penny
Viola
SpoilerViola was staring down at her feet. Around her, she was listening to voices of Kurama, Penny, Mordokai, Blue, and Nil.
"You can't honestly be serious about this!"
"She's the only one who could execute this type of operation."
Kurama spoke out angrily.
"But by herself?! We never go by ourselves to any mission."
Mordokai looks at Kurama sternly.
"This isn't a normal type of mission."
"But what if it's some fabricated story from Grim! How can we know he was telling the truth?"
Nil hesitated, then both he and Mordokai looked at Blue who was sitting in the corner.
"There is no doubt. His memories confirmed everything as he spoke them. I could see the hellish realm the infernal demons dwell."
"Then we have no choice. She must go."
"But what about us?!"
Penny's high-pitched voice sounded so out of place in the argument.
"Why can't Kurama and I go with her? We'd be able to help!"
"Penny. The Paladin Academy only ever mobilized for invasion twice before. Both times we had atleast several weeks of warning as well as the Academy not being the target. We only have a day to prepare, so we need everyone here to help defend. Viola is the only one apart from me who has her crystal unlocked. She must go."
"But-!"
"Penny! That's my final word."
Penny looked down, defeated. Nil spoke up.
"But Mordokai, think about it. What are the chances that she can defeat the Demon King by herself?"
Mordokai paused at these words. Lines appeared on his forhead, revealing the stress and pressure he was under. Blue then muttered suddenly without warning.
"I can't make sense of it..."
They all look over at him.
"Make sense of what?"
Blues yellow glowing eye-dots turn to face them under the dark hood.
"Why the demons would try to invade this dimension, and target this academy of all places."
"Uhhh... Because they're blood thirsty demons and hate righteousness?"
Blue's eyes slant at Kurama, resembling horizantal ovals.
"No, that I understand. What I don't understand is why they would launch a suicide rush against us."
Everyone stared at him.
"Blue... We're not invincible. Our powers will certainly be put to the test against demons-"
"Of course... you wouldn't know."
Blue takes a deep breath, or looks like he did since they couldn't see his face.
"The mortal realm here is completely separate from the magic that exists. Wizards, such as myself, must call upon magic to form into the way we want it to form. However, the Hells and even the Heavens are weaved together with magic that one could say the realms themself are solid magic."
He pauses for a moment.
"The thing is, that demons and devils, and even angels, have to have this magic flow through them, just as we need air to breathe. Without this magic flowing through their bodies, they would soon become stone."
A long pause was greeted by this.
"So... you're saying that the moment they arrive they'll turn into statues?"
"That's what should happen, and they know this. So why execute a doomed invasion?"
Nil spoke up.
"What if they carry the magic with them and emit it around them so they can stay in our realm?"
"No. The magic would be used up too quickly if each individual demon tried carrying it, but..."
His eyes widen.
"They could send it as waves through the portal! But the magic would spread too randomly to be effective... What they would need is some sort of beacon that the magic would be attracted to. That way, they could create a safe zone bubble to exist here."
He looked over at Mordokai.
"Grim must have placed the beacon here before he attacked the academy."
Mordokai let these words sink in before answering.
"So all we need to do is seal up the portal."
"That won't work in the long run. They could always open up new portals. What we need to do is disable either the beacon that Grim set up, or destroy the source of the thing that would send the magic through."
"So we find the beacon and destroy it. Then Viola wouldn't need to face the Demon King at all."
"I have not been able to access that part of Grim's memories. It will take quite a while before I would be able to discern where he placed the beacon. By that time, the invasion would have long started. However, this means that..."
Comprehension dawned on Mordokai's face.
"...That Viola just needs to destroy whatever is focusing the magic in the demonic realm to our realm."
"It would be a stealth mission. But if all goes well, she can destroy the magic channeler and be out before any of the demons would notice her."
"And she might still be able to avoid the Demon King that way!"
Mordokai nodded.
"It's a long shot, but it's the best plan we have."
"Don't worry, I'm ready."
Everyone was startled that she broke her silence.
"This is what a paladin is suppose to do. I can do it. I will destroy this device and get out of there safely. I will not fail."
She stood up determination in her eyes.
Mordokai nodded, a satisfied smile on his lips.
"Very well. You will leave tomorrow morning. The rest of us will stay here and prepare for the worst. Good luck."
Viola nodded. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kurama and Penny exchange worried looks.Last edited by Silverraptor; 2012-10-25 at 02:24 PM.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Interesting...but if all they need to do is destroy the beacon, would it make more sense for them to commit more troops to it?
Also, if it allows demons to invade, doesn't that mean it would allow angels to do the same?Hi, I'm back, I guess. ^_^I cosplay and stream LPs of single player games on Twitch! Mon, Wed & Fri; currently playing: Nier: Replicant (Mon/Wed) and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Thurs or Fri)

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
However, the demon king seems like the ultimate villain of the series so far. It would be possible that she fights him, but gets away, but it seems too soon in the series for her to fight a demon king. This is only halfway through the story arc, and there will be sequel story arcs. They need a recurring villain. It wouldn't be so much of a fight, if it occurred, but more likely a desperate race for survival while being hounded by demonic legions, if it happened. And then, when escape seems impossible, a deus ex machina occurs, introducing a character that will reappear randomly throughout the story arcs, not actually being a character until story arc 4 or 5.
