The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
The Possessed
Legend of the Werewolf
(a blind werewolf game)
It has been countless years of studies and digs, but at long last Professors Nomen A. Annis and Dr B. Anjo had tracked the legend of the Werewolf to its origin. A small town in the Himalayan Mountains was abandoned after an event claimed the lives of most of the inhabitants. The survivors had claimed that monsters who could look like men had been the cause. The descriptions they gave of the monsters would later be compared to wolves, serving as the seed for the werewolf legend. A particularly nasty outbreak of rabies in wolves had later popularized the legend and obscured its true source. No one had returned to that place until now. The Professors and their expedition would be the first humans to set foot upon the site of a truly legendary event...
The Lynch:
SpoilerLynching works as normal for a werewolf game, with the primary exception that a 75% majority will be required for a lynch if no one has yet died in the night.
Ties will be handled via a prisoner's dilemma:
SpoilerThe tied parties will have the option to help or harm each of those they are tied with.
Any tied person who is harmed dies.
Any tied person who is not harmed lives.
If a tied person died, all tied persons who survive are silenced until the next night, including voiding their power but not any group votes.
Roles:
SpoilerEveryone will receive a quick topic link through which all role information will be given. At the beginning of the game, you don’t really know much of anything. You may or may not be part of a group and may or may not have an individual power.
Night Actions:
SpoilerEveryone is asked to submit two names every night (preferably through the QT). One name is who you want to use your power on and one is as a vote for a group night action. You may choose to forgo either or both actions, but if so, please notify me that you are doing so.
Sample:
Power target: TBFProgrammer
Group vote: No one
Unlike most games, powers that reveal information (such as a scry), will typically be telling your target something.
The game will begin in the night. Group actions won’t be available for Night 0.
The Dig:
SpoilerYou are archeologists on a digging expedition. The dig takes place over five stages and requires people to work on it. The more you dig up, the more you might uncover about this place. Each day, you choose (use blue) to assist the dig, ignore the dig or hinder the dig. The dig progresses by the number of people assisting less the number of people hindering the dig, with the caveat that the dig can never go backwards.
Until phase 3 of the dig is complete, it is assumed you are assisting if you do not post your choice. After that, it is assumed you are ignoring the dig.
Each stage of the dig requires twice the effort than there are members of the expedition. So each stage will require 32 assists.
Winning:
SpoilerThe game ends when either all the wolf roles or all the town roles are eliminated. Any player still alive at this time wins the game, unless their role specifically states a different condition*. The simplest way to eliminate a role is to kill that role’s player, but that may not be the only way.
The traditional win conditions for wolves and the town are their respective secondary win conditions. Any neutrals will have special secondary conditions.
*Yes, I know, this is a bit evil of me, but other conditions will be fairly easy to achieve, even if you never know you need to do them.

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
Sounds interesting, in.
So is it the first person in-game to give him the name or the first person to post a name for him.
If it’s the latter can the name be Nomen A. Annis. (middle 'name' is Amisit)
Edit: Oh, on the subject of the tie decider we’d like to try out the prisoner’s dilemma.Last edited by usourselves&we; 2011-12-21 at 06:11 AM.

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
Okay I'll bite.
No, seriously, I'd keep your hands away from the bars if I were you.
I vote for a 'no lynch' in the case of a tie, it added an interesting tactical dynamic in Transformers.
I'll b Dr B. Anjo, an archaeologist from the University of Wallaballoo.

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
First person to post a name for him gets to be him, but having two Professors will work as well (currently you and banjo). It is primarily so that we have an expedition leader for the opening narration, since I'm not going to be doing the usual narrator death to start this one, as that wouldn't fit the slow start.

In, and I would like to see the Prisoner's Dilemma used, though I would think that unless both targets are Masons/Wolves they'd always kill each other.

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
Prisoner dillema:
Two prisoners are caught doing a crime.
they both are given the option to either betray the outer one or saying nothing.
if both say nothing, they both get prison for 5 years.
if both betray the outer, they both get 20 years of prison.
if one say nothing and the outer betrays, the traitor gets 2 weeks of home arrest and the outer gets 15 years of prison.
thats the original.
the game takes it like this:
they can pick option 1 or 2.
1 is the friendly option, that if both pick, they both survive, and if one picks it, he dies.
2 is the aggresive option, that if both pick, they both die, and if one picks it, he survives.Despite everything, its still me.

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
Prisoner's dilemma:
If they both choose to help each other, there is no lynch and no other affect.
If they both choose to kill each other, they both die.
If A chooses to kill B but B chooses to help A, B dies and A is silenced (includes voiding powers, but not night votes) until the next day phase has ended. As such, A is a suspicious person who was just directly responsible for B's death and is unable to defend his action.
The silencing is a key component, since otherwise there would be no dilemma (voting to kill the other player wouldn't hurt you). The BareFoot Programmer

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
Due to not hitting the minimum number of players, recruitment will last another week or until we hit 16 players. If we have not hit 16 players by Tuesday, I will be attempting to drop roles , which will just leave you guys with a little less information over the course of the game.

May i play and i vote Prisoner's Dilemma
Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil...prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon...

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
And that's sixteen. Role assignments are being made and you should receive a quick topic link soon. Opening narration will follow, but you may submit your night 0 power action as soon as you receive your quick topic.
Recruitment is now restricted to auto-lynch replacements.
Day 0The expedition set out at sunrise. These were all trained archeologists or exited students, so there was no difficulty in getting everyone together and on the path. So long as they held to the well-worn path, everything went smoothly.
Unfortunately, there was no path to the village of the legends anymore. The backbreaking work of cutting through the jungle and the heat as the sun climbed higher in the sky soon set some of the students to complaining.
Spregorious, the post-doc put in charge of the rear of the expedition fell farther and farther behind the main expedition trying to get this batch of students to keep moving.
Arriving at the dig site late in the day with the lead portion of the expedition, Dr. B Anjo discovered a clearing, the center of which contained no growing things. Unsettled, he instructed his staff and students to begin setting up camp on the very edge of the clearing.
By the time Spregorious' group arrived, the sun was sinking beneath the horizon and the insects were beginning to appear. The group, relieved at the seeing the camp already set up, made a dash for the mosquito lined tents and the smells of dinner.
The ghosts smiled on their good fortune. At last, hosts for them to use to right the wrongs that were committed here years ago. Their battle would soon begin again...
Auto-lynches
SpoilerAuto-lynch will go into effect after four phases without action (power or group vote at night, pointing or dig action during the day). No one will die from auto-lynch, but as soon as someone has an auto-lynch in effect on them and I have a replacement, the replacement will happen. There will be no additional warning beyond stating who is eligible to be replaced and a replacement can happen mid-phase.
Night 0
Start
(Night zero will end Wednesday or after all power targets have been received. No target is always a valid option. There are no group votes for night zero.)Last edited by TBFProgrammer; 2012-01-09 at 12:18 PM.

Re: The Possessed - a blind werewolf game
Night 0
The night passes quietly as the expedition members save up their energy for the demands of the main event. As dawn light stretches through the clearing, Professor Nomen A Annis begins laying out the dig site while Dr. B Anjo rouses the camp and sets them to work preparing breakfast.
For the most part, the camp has no trouble falling into the routine and getting to work on their various jobs, but some members are troubled by strange dreams. Others are more troubled by a grimacing man and the strange hazy line that flickers at the edge of their vision when they look upon him.
Day 1
