Default The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0341 - #0350)

Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 341 through 350.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on March 11th, 4pm EST. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, 337 Brief and to the Point bitterly and repeatedly complained about how difficult it was to get its message across in twenty-five word

    ...

Perhaps it should have written its messages in advance. No matter, though. It was still enough for it to advance with ease and move onwards.

That was then though, and this is now. And by now, I mean it is time to break the shackles of self-imposed word limits and decide amongst us all which is worthy of winning....

#344 because Leeky Windstaff, evil gnome druid, is great. Also, the jab at Eberron.

There are plenty of good jokes in this batch, but I think #344 is the best.

Some nice strips, but since I can't let the CPPD down after the last round, I'm voting for 347 - On the Map (which is a good strip to vote anyway).

Thog fears he will never again know the majesty of the gumdrop mountains.

(Yes, the capitalization of "Thog" is in the original. Weirds me out, too.)

(Also, this page has an unusual [for OotS] panel layout, which I enjoy. The large central panel works well as both an establishing shot of the coming conflict and for pivoting from the Order's POV to the Guild's.)

The trees joke was the best joke among those, though the police idiocy in 347 was close, along with 345 for the foreshadowing.

Wow, this is a tough choice. I personally think that every one of these ten is a strong contender for a classic "OotS" strip. From Thog's "Candy Land" joke, to Leeky Windstaff and Durkon running away in panic, to Vaarsuvius not having prepared the right spells for the combat, to Sabine and Roy's showdown in the warehouse, this is a strong group of strips.

But my vote has to go to 348 for Yokyok and the "Princess Bride" jokes. Toss in Belkar mangling poetry and Elan having to remind Belkar that he's under a curse that keeps him from killing Yokyok, and it adds up to comedy gold!

Quite a few good strips in this lot (including the return of the flumphs) but I'll go with 345.

Most of these are just okay, but #344: A Walk In the Park is one of my favorite strips. Once Leeky Windstaff shows up, everything in it is comedy gold.

349, with 350 and 347 right behind. A nice bunch. 350 almost had my vote if only for the sillyness of it all.

Edit: On an unrelated note, it struck me when rereading the Yokyok one; has anyone ever just assumed Sunshine was actually Elan's much wondered surname, and just started using it to see if it catches on?

    Elan Sunshine.

Strong set this week, but no amazing strips. Partial to 350 for the callback to 301, but I think it just a hair under the others. I think I'll join the herd and vote for 344 BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I mean, there's just something about someone who loves their work, you know what I mean?

    And with that....

    VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

344 A Walk in the Park is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
