I'm assuming this isn't sarcasm, but just in case it's a snarky jab at people liking unlikable characters, you know you've got Tarquin as your avatar, right?

But anyways yeah, I wasn't a big fan of Crystal when she was in it before (though I really dig her character design, young, living and golem) but this arc with her looks like it's shaping up to be quite interesting.

Just like Belkar, I don't think evil is ~part of her inherent nature~ or something, nor is she intelligent enough to, like Bozzok or Tarquin or Xykon, have made a conscious&educated decision to partake in it. Too dumb for full culpability for her regular course of action. I'm not going to dislike her as much for her atrocities as I would a more intelligent and self-aware character.

I just want her to be okay and to get better - in all possible interpretations of this turn of phrase.

I doubt that he has animal level intelligence, which is what you need to not be held responsible for your actions. You can argue she was a product of her environment, maybe, but since Haley came from that same environment it wouldn't hold much water.

Haley's had her parents - both of whom I would peg as Good, even if Ian is a touch too paranoid and mercantile. If Crystal was brought up by Bozzok - who may have consciously chosen to bring her up to be dumb enough to make a good tool... No, it's not the same environment, and not exposure to same ideals and concepts.

We have no idea who raised her, but again, its a weak argument. Parents are hardly the only factor of an environment.

They are the strongest for a kid tho, and can mess them up real easy and real bad early on - or instill values that will last a lifetime. How exactly their influence works is a complicated mess - Ian made Haley cripplingly distrustful despite only wishing the best on her... but it's definitely a strong factor.

And of course we know what sort of environment Greysky city provides 'in general'. Crystal fit right in.

I said "not fully culpable for what her usual course of action is" rather than for actions themselves... idk there's a difference for me
and Rich never said those who are Evil are incapable of redemption when given a chance to change their choice

and I don't like seeing /anyone/ suffer, not even characters I hate. Just an invidual preference, I guess.

FYI, Word of Giant has Ian at Chaotic Neutral.

Anyway, I think that Crystal is a fine character, and makes for a very cool Golem. I put Thog above her, but she still makes a cool nemesis for Haley.

Still, he's idealistic, and tried to raise Haley to be Good like her mom - and succeeded. There is a great difference that upbringing makes.

And I agree that Thog is funnier. Crystal, however, is actually interesting.

Come on. The ideas of "an individual is responsible for their own actions" and "parents greatly influence their children" are hardly contradictory.

also this is scientific proof that Crystal is a great character and deserves praise thrown her way (and Rich's because he's a great writer) and all the good things, ice cream and puppies

I seriously friendship Crystal x Haley from literally the first moment I saw Crystal in the comic and have been quietly innerly devastated that they hated each other ever since but HERE COMES THE LIGHT OF HOPE

(also I support the pickles ship because hell yes multishipping)

I also think Crystal x Belkar has potential
